homerun
part #118
"hot dog or cheeseburger?" mr. lickham asked.
"cheeseburger please." i said
"same" pat said. erin came out with two glasses with ice.
"what do you want to drink?" she asked.
"just water, thanks er." i said.
"you too pat?" she asked.
"yea." he said, and she ran back inside. danny walked up to us. he was as tall as pat was, just not as muscular. he was more of the basketball player in the family.
"how was the gym?" he asked, noticing the prewrap in my hair.
"it was good."i said.
"yea, we played around a little bit, you know, nothing too intense." pat said.
"what were you afraid she was going to beat you?" he asked.
"no." i smiled. "i couldn't. and anyways i hurt my wrist." i said, holding up my left hand.
"ouchh." danny said.
"oh dear." i heard mrs. lickham say walking out. "congratulations, on the girls making it to the playoffs." she said with a genuine smile.
"yea, we're all really excited." i said.
"now who are you playing?" she asked.
"pack valley, it should be a good game." i promised.
"oh, well we might drop by to see that." she said, and looked at pat.
"aren't you going?"
"no, i have football." he said.
"on saturday?" she asked.
"yea, we're expecting the win, so kicci wants a practice." he said.
"oh." was all she said, and mr. lickham called us up to get our food. mrs. lickham had tossed a salad, so i ate some of that, and we chatted a little bit over dinner.
"so, pat's birthday's in a week." danny brought up out of random. pat's face got red, and he laughed, as did mr. lickham and erin. mrs. lickham glared at him and scolded.
"danny!"
"no, it's okay mom." pat said. and smiled.
"yea, i got him something already." i smiled.
"ooh what is it?" danny asked.
"she's not going to tell you now!" erin said.
"no, i gave it to him early." i said.
"yea, i'm going to the plain white tee's concert on thursday!" he said excitedly.
"oh that's awesome!" danny said.
"yea, i knew he loved them, so i decided to get tickets. i had to get them early because i didn't want to be too unexpected." i said.
"oh dear that's so nice." mrs. lickham said.
we continued with the talk until around twilight. i suggested.
"well, dinner was amazing, thank you for having me, but i'd better get home or my parents will wonder if i got smushed by the weights." i joked, they all laughed.
"alright dear, we'll see you later." mrs. lickham said.
"bye honey." mr. lickham said.
"bye devon!" erin said.
"bye dev." danny called from inside the house.
"byee!" i called as pat walked me to the car, i forgot he would have to drive me home.
"twilight's the prettiest time of the day, isn't it?" i said.
"twilight, another ending to another day. no matter how perfect that day is, it always has to come to an end.the end to another day, the return of night. darkness is so predictable, don't you think?" i got teary, seeing as he quoted twilight. i tried to quote back while wiping my eyes, and saying,
"i like the night, without it, we'd never see the stars." and smiled. "i didn't know you read twilight?"
"well i didn't really until we were in your room." he said.
"why did you start then?" i asked.
"you had all four books, and i saw the one on your dresser. i decided to read it, and i know why you like it so much." he said.
"it's what every girl wants, the perfect boyfriend."
"i already have mine though." i said.
"do you now?" he asked.
"yes, yes i do." i said, and i stretched up to kiss him.
