Closest Thing To Perfect
Eleven
“So, uh where are we going?” I asked looking up into his big eyes. The wind blew my hair. I got annoyed with having to continuously fix it and grunted aloud. Daniel chuckled a little at me before answering the question. “Well, I was thinking we could go to the little diner down here, I’m not sure if anything else is open.” He answered a little hesitantly. “Oh, okay.” I replied and continued walking. Finally we got to a small diner, well I guess it‘s not that small, but still. “I really like this place, my mom used to take me here all the time when I was little. I’ve never really came here with anyone else before.” He said looking down at the menu. “That’s nice. I bet she was a good lady.” I said overlooking the menu. “She was the best.” He smiled a little placing his menu at the end of the table. “Hey Dan! Long time no see, how’s it been?” The waitress touched his arm gently. “Yeah! You know, same old, same old. Been going to school down the street. Safest thing for me, ya know?” He said back at the lady. “Oh yeah. I’m sorry about your mom. Need anything, just give me a holler. You know I’m always here.” She said, her tone softened. Daniel left the conversation just like that, I guess he doesn’t like talking about his mom. “Thanks.” He said suddenly, really quietly though. “Shirley-temple? Just like old times?” She asked changing the subject. “Uh, yeah. Sure, and um one for the girl.” He smiled before I could say anything. “Sure thing.” She smiled walking away. “Um, what on earth is a Shirley-temple?” I asked narrowing my eyebrows together. “Don’t worry, ya gonna love it.” He smiled. “So, what are you getting?” He asked. “Um, I think I’m gonna get a burger.” I said a little quietly. “A what?!” He freaked. “Bella’s going to get a burger. Oh god! What’s up with the world.” He pinched himself. “Oh shut up.” I laughed at him. The waitress smiled and came over to take our orders and gave us our Shirley-temples. “Thanks.” I smiled at her. She nodded and walked away. We ate and left shortly after. “I don’t wanna go back to the room.” I smiled at him and spun around on the sidewalk so I was standing in front of him. “Let’s do something!” I added happily. “Did she give you some alcohol or something?” He laughed. “No no no no no! I just want to do something come on!” I nagged. “Oh, whatever. Where do you wanna go?” He smiled a little. “Let’s go here!” I took his hand and ran down the street, the wind was blowing my hair as I giggled a little.
