Chapter 1
As I put on my high heels and put away my make up, I knew that this homecoming was going to be one to remember. Of course whenever people say that in books or movies it always is something to remember, but in a bad way. No. My homecoming night this year was going to be perfect, I could just feel it. I would be voted homecoming queen while my boyfriend, Seth, would be my prince charming. I’m not usually caught up in the whole drama of dances and what not, but this year I wanted it. Maybe even needed it. Especially with Seth. I wanted to have a special moment with him. Now I’m not one to cling obnoxiously to their boyfriends either, but Seth just had that magical thing to him. He was nice, smart, funny, athletic, sweet, romantic, good looking, and overall he just had a genuinely kind heart. Probably the perfect guy. I know those are impossible to get these days, but I hadn’t found anything imperfect about Seth just yet. I’m just your average girl attempting to fit in, which is why I was so shocked when I was nominated to run for homecoming queen. Of course Seth would win homecoming king considering that he’s a ladies man, but I never worry because he always whispers, “You’re mine forever, babe.” And as a matter of fact, I do believe him. He has never once told me a lie, and one time he tried but he’s a really bad liar so I could tell.
I was walking down the stairs in hope to just get Seth and leave without any pictures being taken and all that other goo-goo ga-ga stuff. Once I reached the bottom step, I was ready to bolt. I opened the front door and jumped back in fright. There, on my front porch, was standing Brayden.
“Whoa Miss Mexican Jumping Bean, what’s your hurry?” He joked.
“Hey Brayden,” I mumbled.
“Mind if I come in?”
Don’t get me wrong, I love Brayden to death, he’s my best friend, but I really wanted to get going.
“Um well actually, Brayden, I was just leaving to go to homecoming.” I said.
“ Isn’t that in an hour and a half?”
I was speechless. “Are you going?” I tried to change the subject.
“Nah, I don’t have a date.”
“You don’t need a date. Go with your friends.”
“Well then maybe I just don’t feel like going,” he shrugged. “God, Kiara, I don’t need to do EVERYTHING the school has planned do I?” He shoved me playfully.
“No I guess not…but it’d be more fun if you went.”
“Nah. You wouldn’t even pay attention to me anyway. You have Seth…” He trailed off in thought.
I was stuck on what to say next. In all honesty, he was right. I wouldn’t pay attention to him. Not that I would mean to. Just Seth is a really great guy and I love him.
“Well I guess you can come in and hang out with Spencer.” I finally answered his question.
“Okay cool. Where is he?”
“In his room. Probably playing COD or something.”
“Sweet. Thanks Kiara.”
As he stepped into the door, Seth turned the corner.
His eyes lit up as he saw me. “My God! Kiara you are so beautiful! You are sure to win homecoming queen tonight.” He walked over and kissed me on the cheek.
I giggled, “Thanks Seth. Your tux isn’t that shabby either,” I smiled.
I could sense Brayden tense up. He’s been acting really weird when Seth was always around. Then Seth seemed to finally notice Brayden.
“Oh, uh, hey Brayden,” he said uncertainly.
Why was Seth acting weird all of a sudden?
Something was going on.
