The girl messed up.
Think about it.
The girl is crying because the boy found out she was cheating on him. As with the 'they', it might refer to both of the guys.
The boy can't make up his mind about letting the girl go or not.

the girl messed up. The "they" are the people who feel bad for the guy-- his friends, her friends, or maybe she cheated on him for another guy and both guys are the "they"-- either way the girl messed up and the boy is broken hearted bc of it and shes broken hearted tht she hurt him
