    chapter six; part two
“She’s pretty.” I smile. “Her eyes match yours.”
“Ha, everyone says that.” He smiles.
“It’s true.” I look back to Chace. I see him stand up, and walk over to his mom. She walks over, and I stand up.
“You must be Ember,” Her scratchy voice says. “You’re gorgeous, hun.”
“Thank you,” I laugh. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too! Chace has said a lot about you.” She nudges my arm sarcastically. I laugh, and I feel my face burning. “It was nice meeting you, but I have to get to work. See you tonight Chace.” She smiles, and walks into the kitchen. The young waitress walks out with our food. After we’re done eating, we go for a short walk back to the beach. W
We meet up with Jake and Britt. “Hey,” Jake says. “I was just leaving to get ready for training. You going tonight?”
“I totally forgot.” He turns to me. I shrug my shoulders. “Yeah, let’s go.” He kisses my cheek and walks away with Jake, talking about football. Britt sighs, and tells me she can’t stay. She walk along the edge of the beach to grass, and onto the road. I decide to walk home. I open the door, revealing my mom on the couch, with Nicholas.
“Mom!” I holler. She jumps, and looks up from Nicholas.
    “What?” She snarls.
“Seriously?” I run upstairs, and slam my door. I lay down on my bed, with my face shoved into my pillow crying. I want my dad. I want to leave. I want to take Britt, Jake, and Chace, and leave. I pull out my phone, and call my dad.
“Hello?” A low voice picks up.
    “Dad?” I smile.
    “Ember?”
“Dad! I miss you so much. Come get me, please. I want to see you. I don’t want to be here. Mom met this guy, and I don’t want her to be with him. I want her to be with you, and me, and we can be a family again, please.” I cry into the phone.
“Ember.” He starts. I sigh, knowing this isn’t going to be good. “I’ll never stop loving you, or your mom. I just want you to know that we just have our differences, and we’ll never be together. I’m sorry.” I can hear his voice shake, and I don’t want anything but to be with him.
“Dad, can I come visit you?”
“Hun,” I brace myself for his lecture. “It’s against the agreement, but trust me, if it was my choice, then I’d have you live with me.” I drop the phone onto my bed, until I hear the dial-tone again. He doesn’t even want me, does he? I shut my phone off, and lay back in bed.
“Ember...” My mom opens the door a crack. “We really need to talk.” She sits on the edge of my bed, her hands shaky.
    “About what?” I sigh.
“Nicholas.” She reaches into her pocket, and pulls out a tiny ring.
“No...” I look at her. “Listen mom. I told you once, and I’ll tell you it again. I should be more important than some guy. I don’t want to accept him, and I never will. I’ll find a way to move in with dad. I don’t like where he’s leading you. You never drink, and now the fridge is filled with different alcohols. I’m scared for you mom. I know you can do better.” I stop talking, and walk out to the roof.
    “I love him Ember.”
“You said you loved dad too!”
Author's Note: Intense? It gets even more intense in the next two chapters! Can this get at least 5 faves?

    chapter five ; part four
I lower my sunglasses, and take a short-cut Britt showed me, down to the beach.
I avoid Ari, and run down to the backside of the café.
“A water please.” I smile, and hand the cashier a few bills. I grab my water, and remember I needed to meet Britt at the beach.
Me: Britt, almost ran into Ari, I’ll be at the beach soon!
Britt: Alright, don’t start anything. Lol.
I see Britt’s familiar face down at the shore. She’s sitting with Jake. I sigh, and walk down to them. I was hoping it’d be just us. “Hey,” I smile. They both turn around, and wave. I sit down, and sip my water. “What’s up?”
“Nothing, now tell us what happened!” She laughs. I turn towards them and sit cross-legged.
“Alright,” I start. “I was with Chace down at the harbor. We were dancing on the dock, until we hear a voice. I didn’t even know who it was. Chace let go of me, and then ran to who I figured to be Ari. He told her off, and then she came over to me. She grabbed my neck and told me that I was a fat, worthless piece of trash.” I pause to let them take it all in.
“What did you do?” Jake looks curious.
“I couldn’t do anything, I could barely breath.” I show them the bruise on my neck.
“And she cut your face, right?” Britt points to the band-aid. I nod, while taking another sip of my water. “Hey, Ember...” Britt looks at me with an awkward expression on her face. “Is that your mom over there?” She points by my house. I see my mom wearing a small bikini, and holding hands with the guy that slept over last night... Wonderful.
“Ew...” I grunt. “She’s old, he’s old... They shouldn’t be wearing that. That’s just embarrassing.” I get up, and wipe the back of my shorts off. “I’m going home, I don’t want to see that, bye guys.”
    “Bye.” Jake waves.
“See you later.” Britt laughs. I arrive home, with Chace sitting on my steps. I look at him curiously. He keeps his head in his hands, until he hears me sit down next to him. “Hey,” He looks up. “Sorry... It’s weird that I’m here. I just needed to talk to you.”
“It’s fine.” I smile. “Talk to me about what?”
    “Us.”

    chapter five ; part three
“Ember... Come down here,” She hollers. “We need to talk.”
    “What?” I say with attitude.
“I want you to meet someone.”
    “I don’t want to.”
“You need to.” She grasps my arm.
    “No.” I fight back.
    “Yes.”
“Leave me alone!” I slam my door in her face. I have a slight realization of what I just did, and I open my door back up. I see my mom sitting against the wall. “Mom...”
    “What?” She looks at me.
“I just need to tell you something.”
“I’m sorry... I just... I’m sorry.” I say to her.I take a deep breath. I start to get angry when she doesn’t ask about my neck or face. “I feel like you don’t care anymore.”
    “Alright.” She wipes her eyes.
“I want you to be happy. I don’t want you with a bunch of guys, and to be hurt by all of them. Ever since dad left, I haven’t wanted you with anyone else, because I’m scared they’ll hurt you again. I don’t want dad replaced.”
“Hun,” She gets up. “I understand, that’s why I want you to meet Nicholas. I understand that I should’ve told you about him before I brought him home with me. I’ve been with him for awhile. You’re never home anymore. I wanted to tell you.”
“I care about you more than anything.” She hugs me. “Now, tell me what happened to your neck and your cheek.” She takes me downstairs. She sits me down on the couch. She walks over to the kitchen, and looks at Nicholas.
“Nicholas... I think it’s best you leave right now, I need some time with my daughter.” She kisses his cheek, and watches him leave out the door.
“Chace’s ex girlfriend,” I start when I hear the door latch. “Ari. She choked me, and scratched me, when she saw Chace and I dancing on the shoreline.”
“Oh, she sounds like trouble.” My mom rolls my eyes. I nod my head, and continue.
“After that. Chace helped me up, and mom... He made me feel so special. He called me beautiful, and he meant it.” I smile, and lean back.
“I’m glad you’re happy.” She smiles. “Now, let’s eat.” She walks out to the kitchen, and flips the pancakes she had made onto my plate.
After I eat, I shower, and throw my hair up. I tug on a new pair of shorts, and a tank-top. I pick up my room, and go back downstairs.
“Mom,” I smile at her. “I’ll be back later.” I walk out the front door, and walk down to the café, hoping to see someone to be with.
I feel my flip-flops hit the already hot pavement. The loud noise of each flip and flop draws my eyes down. I don’t watch where I step. I look up, and see Ari’s face coming in the crowd.

    chapter five ; part two
Chace pulls out his phone, and starts playing a song. He slides me in closer to him, and we dance on the shore.
“Ahem...” A girly tone says from the edge of the dock. She’s not familiar. She’s platinum blonde, and fake tanned. That must be Ari... Oh no. “Chace, we have some talking to do.” I roll my eyes at her. Chace walks over to her, without looking happy one bit.
“Ari,” He frowns. “Look. You’re practically orange, how in any way is that attractive? You cheated on me with my best friend, willingly. How am I ever supposed to forgive you? I don’t even want to know about what you do with other guys. You can have any other guy. I’m just so done with you. Go away.” He starts walking back to me. She starts to follow him, and comes up to me. As she gets closer, I see her poorly attached eyelashes.
“It’s your fault.” Her small hand grips my neck. “You fat worthless piece of trash. Have fun with my leftovers.” She scratches under my eye. I feel the blood drip down my face. She loosens her grip, and I fall to my knees. She runs away, and I hear a car speed away.
“Ember...” Chace comes over to me. He kneels down beside me, and lifts my chin up. “I’m so sorry.”
I wipe the blood from my face, and feel Chace help me up. I’m weak. I feel faint, and I can still feel her grip on my neck. “Fat, worthless piece of trash.” I say to him. “She called me that.” I sigh.
“You’re none of that. You’re beautiful.” He holds me tighter. We finally get to my house, and he helps me with my scratch. “It’s not that bad,” He examines the scratch.
“Oh thanks, doctor Chase.” I say to him. He laughs, and puts a small bandage on my cheek.
“All better.” He kisses it. I feel my face get red, and I hear my mom’s car pull into the small drive. She bursts in, her hair a mess, and her clothes practically hanging off of her. She pulls in a man, and rushes him upstairs. I roll my eyes, and turn to Chace. He laughs, and looks at my neck. “I’m so sorry she did that to you.”
“I’m fine.” I sigh, and lead him up to my room. I sit down on my bed, and he sits next to me. I lean against him, and close my eyes. I feel a burning in my cut, and I try to ignore it.
I open my eyes, and see Chace sleeping. I slide the blanket over us, and turn the other way, and close my eyes.
“Psst..” I hear Chace say. I open my eyes, and see the morning sun shining through my window. “Sorry, I just didn’t want you to freak out when I left. My dad is going to be mad that I didn’t come home last night, I better get going. I’ll see you around.” He kisses my forehead, and walks out the door.
Once I hear the door close, I fall back asleep until I hear my phone vibrate.
Britt: Hey! What happened last night? I want details, pronto!
Me: Meet me at the beach later tonight?
    Britt: Sounds good!
I go downstairs, to see my mom down in the kitchen, with the guy she brought home. I walk back up into my room.

    chapter five ; part one
I go to shower after Britt goes home to change. After my shower, I lay in bed texting Chace until I hear my mom arrive home. I go downstairs, and help unpack groceries. I wash my hands, and start cutting up vegetables for supper.
“Can I have a friend over for supper?” I ask her.
    “Sure,” She smiles. “Who?”
“His name is Chace...” My cheeks start to get red.
“Is he your boyfriend?” She looks at me, and I can’t help but laugh.
“No mom. Just a friend.” I wink at her. She nods, and I step into the other room to call him. He says he’ll be over soon. I run upstairs, and put on a nice blue shirt with white skinny jeans. I wrap a silver pearl necklace around my neck.
I come back downstairs, and see my mom, with her hair freshly curled. I fill her in on basic things about Chace. She seems to think he’s good for me. I hear him knock at the door, and smile to my mom. I open the door, and welcome Chace with a hug.
I lead him over to the table, and we sit across from my mom.
“You must be Chace,” She smiles and shakes his hand. He nods. She looks at him, studying his looks. His hair is wet, looking like he just got out of the shower. He’s wearing faded color jeans, and a dark gray tee. He has street shoes on. She smiles when he takes his hat off and sits at the table. “Ember has told me a lot about you.”
“Oh,” His face gets red. “What’d she say?”
“That you we’re a cutie.” I finish my supper, and put my plate in the sink.
“Did she now?” I feel my face burning red. My mom laughs, and takes Chace’s plate.
“Well, I have to go back to the office, print out a few things. I’ll be home later. If you need anything, call me.” She grabs her purse and keys and leaves immediately. I lead Chace outside, and we walk along the beach for awhile. I sit down on one of the benches, looking out to the sunset.
“Chace,” I look. I feel my throat swelling up, and my eyes starting to water. “I’ve been holding something back.”
“You know you can tell me anything.” He grabs my hand.
“I haven’t been honest with you lately.”
“It was you at the party.” He wipes the tear from my eye.
    “You know?”
“I’ve known.” He smiles, and cups my head in his hands. He kisses me, and pulls back. “Your eyes.” He laughs. “They gave it away.” He picks me up off the bench, and we walk along the boardwalk, down to the harbor, by the new lighthouse. It lights where we’re standing every few seconds.

    chapter four; part two
“What?” He looks confused. “I was with her all night?” Britt whispers quickly into Jake’s ear, probably filling him in.
“Oh, I guess I didn’t see her then. You were gonna tell her that you liked Ember, right?” He smirks.
“Yeah,” He bites his lip. I feel terrible now. He’s going to find out soon. “I was.” He wraps his arm around me. I smile and look towards him. “Your eyes.” He says. He knows. He knows. Crap. He totally knows. “Have you been crying?” He whispers. I sigh of relief, and shake my head.
I smile, and stand up. I kick off my flip-flops, and grab Chace’s hand. I run to the water, and go deep enough to hit my upper thighs. I comes closer to me, and we see Jake and Britt running in. I throw off Chace’s sweatshirt, and run back in with my tank-top over a black bikini.
I splash Chace who is now shirtless, revealing his toned abs. Jake and Britt are already soaked. Britt wears a dark tank-top, and shorts, while Jake is shirtless, and wearing shorts. Chace spins me around, and lets me go. I look at him, wanting him to kiss me already.
“Let’s go for a walk.” Chace leads me near the table was during the party. He takes my hand, and pulls me closer. I tug his sweatshirt over my now dry head. We walk past the table, and I start to get curious. He leads me to a small lighthouse. It’s abandoned, but the beauty still shines brightly. In front of the small lighthouse is a patch of sand, and we sit there. “I come here all the time. It’s my hideout.” He confesses.
“Chace...” I look at him. “Who’s Ari?” I act like I don’t know anything about her.
“She’s my ex-girlfriend.” He confesses. “She cheated on me with someone, and I broke up with her.”
“Is she the girl you were with at the party?” I look at him.
“I was going to break up with her in person, because something inside of me, started liking this new girl. She’s the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met.”
“And who might that be?” I laugh.
“You.” He looks at me. His lips brush against mine, and I lean back with a smile on my face. I lean towards him, and kiss him again. I smile, and we walk back to Jake and Britt.
“Hey, it’s almost four o’clock... Football sign-ups!” Jake looks at Chace. He quickly hugs me, and kisses my cheek. Him and Jake fade into the crowd, and soon enough, I can’t see them. I look at Britt, and smile as wide as I can.
“Britt...” I look at her. “We kissed.” I begin almost jumping up and down from excitement. She looks at me, and smiles.
“No way!” She runs over. We jump up and down, and laugh. We walk back to my house, as I explain the whole thing to her. She doesn’t stop smiling, not even once.
Author's Note: Alright, so I haven't written much after this, but I'm working on it. I really want to know what you guys think.

    chapter four; part one
“Ember...” I feel a small arm wake me up. “Ember.” I feel it again. I open my eyes, and see Britt on the edge of my bed. Her hair in a messy bun, and her make-up worn off.
I look around. I must’ve fallen asleep outside, but how did I manage to get in here? I get up, still in my shorts, and Chace’s sweatshirt. I find a note attached to my window. I tear it off, and begin reading it.
Ember, you fell asleep last night, so I put you in your bed. Call me when you get up? I want to hang out again, it was fun. -Chace
I put it on my wall over my dresser, with a smile on my face. “Britt, did you sleep here?”
“Yeah, I was here all night, but I didn’t want to wake you, or bother you guys’ slow dance.” She nudges my arm. I start to laugh, and we go downstairs for breakfast. My mom is preparing breakfast, and editing her research paper.
“Morning girls.” She smiles, scribbling out over half of her paper. I smile, and sit at the island. Britt sits next to me, pouring herself a glass of water.
After breakfast I call Chace, and make plans to hang out with him, Jake, and Britt down at the beach. I re-braid my hair, and keep Chace’s sweatshirt on. I grab a pair of dark shorts, and put on my new flip-flops. Britt puts on an outfit that she brought over, and we head down to the beach. We sit by where the party was held. “Britt, last night he almost found out it was me.” I see her eyes pop, and she stops drinking her smoothie we got on the way down.
    “How!?” She looks at me.
“My mask was on my dresser.” I sigh.
“This is going to get confusing,” She sips her smoothie. “You’re going to have to tell him soon.” She swirls her cup around.
“I know.” I sigh. I see Jake and Chace walk towards us. We both stop talking, and sit in silence when the boys sit down. Jake and Britt greet with a kiss, and start holding hands. Chace sits down next to me, a smiles.
“Nice sweatshirt.” He jokes. I smile, and turn towards Britt. I mouth the word: Now? She shakes her head and turns towards Jake.
“Hey, man. Ari didn’t go to the party, do you know why? I thought you guys were gonna chill?” Jake begins looking towards us. I see Britt’s elbow pound into Jake’s stomach, and both our eyes look towards each other.

    chapter three
I wake up to the subtle vibration of my phone. Britt’s calling. I sit up, and answer the phone.
    “Hello?” My voice drags on.
“Hey!” She sounds happy. “So, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today, a girls day?” I think about it for a second, and realize that I need to tell her about what happened if Chace hasn’t already told her.
“I’d like that, you should come over soon?” I hold my hand over the phone, and walk into my mom’s room. “Mom,” I whisper. “Can my friend Britt come over?” She nods her head, packing her small briefcase with her research she did last night.
“I’ll be home late tonight. Love you.” She walks me downstairs.
“Alright, I’ll be over soon!” Britt hangs up the phone. I put my phone on my bed, and find an outfit to wear. I choose a pink camisole, blue printed tee, and some tan shorts. I braid my hair to the side, and put on some make-up. Just in time, because I hear a knock on the door.
I open it and see Britt. She greets me with a smile, and I lead her up to my room.
“Can you tell me about Chace?” I nervously laugh, sitting out on the roof.
“Sure, what do you want to know? The basics?” She looks out to the ocean, her dark eyes sparkling in the sunlight. I nod, with a slight ‘mhm’ noise.
“He’s lived here since he was born. He’s been one of my good friends since junior high. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. As far as I know, he’s never had his first kiss,” she pauses to nudge me. “His parents are divorced, and he lives with his dad. He’s never home, because he’s always at work somewhere out of state. He looks tough, but he’d never hurt a fly. He’s not the drinking, partying guy like Jake. He only tries to hang out with this girl.” She stops there, and looks at me. I can feel the color drain from my face, when she said this girl.
“Oh,” I start. “Last night with him was so much fun.”
“I’m glad!” She smiles, and looks down at her phone. “Speaking of him...” She shows me a message from him. Chace: Hey, do you think you could give me Ember’s number? She laughs, at my facial expression when I read it. I tell her yes, and he starts to text me.
    Chace: Hey, it’s Chace.
    Me: Hey(:
I turn back to Britt, and she looks like she wants to tell me something. “This girl he thought was me... Who is she?” I blurt out.
“Her name is Ari.” She rolls her eyes. “She’s not right for him, Ember. She’s a brat. She’s spoiled. She’s captain of the cheerleading team, and he’s nothing compared to her. Just a football player. Not like the others, he’s actually nice. Well, Jake is too.” She smiles. “But, she’s one of those platinum blonde, fake tanned preppy people.” She lets everything out.
“Why does he like her?” I continue asking questions.
“I don’t know, but he needs some sense knocked into him.” She laughs. I start laughing along with her. We stop after I feel my phone vibrate.
Chace: Do you think we could hang out today? I show Britt the text, and she pulls my phone from my hands. I look at her reply. I’d love that. My place at three? I give her an evil look. She laughs, and I run into my bedroom. It’s almost three, so I redo my mascara and eyeliner.

    chapter two
I make my way to the beach, and see a group of people. I walk over, and meet up with Britt. She has a navy blue dress that’s tight on top, and it has tule on the bottom, it reaches just above her knees. “You look so pretty!” She greets me.
“Thanks! You do too!” I laugh.
“Oh, and, Chace seems really into you! You should get to know him.” She smiles, pointing to Chace. I walk over, and tap his shoulder.
    “Hey,” he smiles. “Wow.”
    “Hi.” I smile.
“You look... great. I’m glad you came.” He takes me aside. He walks me down the beach, and stops at a small spot, with a perfect view of the sunset. He takes my hand and intertwines it with mine.
We’re interrupted by Britt. “Hey Chace, Jake’s looking for you, he said it’s about football training next week.”
    “Can it wait?” He sighs
“Just go talk to him.” She laughs.
“I’ll be back,” he smiles towards me.
After he leaves, Britt sits down next to me. “I need to tell you something...” I look at her, starting to get confused. “Chace doesn’t know that you’re you. He thinks you’re a girl that he’s had a thing for.”
    “What?” I ask.
“I just found out, but I have a plan. Keep your mask on, go with what he says, get to know him. He’s going to fall in love with you, Ember.” She laughs, and stands up when she sees Chace coming back. She gives him a smirk when he sits down next to me, and goes back to the party.
Chace wraps his arm around me, and assists me up. We walk down the road for awhile, and he leads me to a small table, lit up by candles. He sits across from me, and we talk for a little bit.
“You haven’t really said much tonight, are you okay?” He looks at me. I decide not to reply. I just nod. He comes closer to me, and lifts his hands towards my mask. Maybe I should let him know. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Before I feel his hands, I hear my phone go off.
“I have to go... Curfew.” I sigh, and run back towards the beach.
“Alright.” He stays sitting down at the small table. I want to turn back, but I keep running until I hit the beach. I feel my body hit someone else.
    “Sorry!” I say.
“Oh, hey! It’s fine. How’d things go? Why are you running?” She sips her punch.
“He was going to take off my mask, but my alarm went off, I’m going to be past my curfew. My mom is going to kill me! Call me tomorrow!” I give her my number, and continue running up the beach, with my heels in my hand. I arrive at the door at 10:59. I open the door, and plop down at the couch.
My mom is at the table on her laptop, doing some research for work. Next to her, is a cup of hot coffee. I give her a hug, and walk up the stairs to my room, without saying a word. I walk out to the roof, and sit down, still in my dress. I press my knees against my chest, and look out to the beach. I see the lights from the party, and hear the beat of the music.
Once the music and lights fade, I decide to go to bed. Thoughts keep racing through my head about Chace. It’s my first day here, I couldn’t possibly be falling for him... Could I?

“Tonight, on the beach. Nothing bad, just the annual masquerade.” I smile.
“Alright, be back by eleven.” She laughs.
“Thank you so much!” I hug her, and run upstairs. I find a cute dress, and look up some cute hairstyles.
I find a cute hairstyle finally, and curl my light brown hair, and pin two pieces back I look for some jewelry in my boxes, and find a necklace, and an old mask I used for halloween a few years ago. I pull up the dress, and put on the mask. I chant to myself while going downstairs. New state, new me. New state, new me.
Author's Note: That's the end of chapter one! I hope you guys liked it. I'm really enjoying this story, and I want feedback, please?(:

    chapter one ; part two
“I better be going, I’ll probably see you around, it’s a small town.” He laughs, walking away into the small crowd of people. I start to look for my mom. I see her tired eyes, and lead her to get our luggage. I grab my suitcases, and she grabs hers. We make our way to the front, where it leads to a small parking lot. We find a car with a sign on it, labeled Ms. Kathy James and family. We walk to the car, and pile in our luggage.
She types in the address into the GPS, and we ride for about five minutes. We’re lead to a small house, that sits on the coast. It’s a dark blue tinted gray color. It has a small deck in the back. I run inside. It has a small family room, that leads into a kitchen. Off the kitchen is a small bathroom, and a laundry room. I run up the stairs, and pick a light blue colored room, with a window that leads to a part of the roof I can sit on. I put down my suitcase, and help my mom with putting stuff in her room.
She has a tan room, with a small bathroom connected to it. She loves the view, and is happy that she got the bigger room. Once we’re done un-packing clothes, and small furniture, we start un-loading the big furniture.
I carry in the last box, and plop down on the crisp white couch. My mom calls for take-out, and I flick on the television.
“Ember,” my mom calls. “It’ll be awhile until we get some food and whatnot, so why don’t you explore around town?”
“Alright,” I smile. “Thanks mom.” I run upstairs, and go through my clothes. I pull out a tank-top, and some shorts, and put on some new flip-flops. I walk out the back door, and find a spot at the beach. Instead of sitting down, I decide to go for a walk. I take a left to the road, revealing a small café, and a few stores. I walk until I find a store that looks good to stop at. I feel my phone vibrate and check it.
Text from Mom: have fun, be back by seven.
I reply, and walk over to the café. I see Jake with a girl, and another boy. Jake and the girl are smiling, and holding hands. “Hey, Ember!” Jake smiles, and waves me over. “Guys, this is Ember, she’s new here. Wanna chill with us?”
“Sure.” I laugh, and sit down next to the guy. He smirks, and scoots over to me.
“Ember, this is Chace, and this is my girlfriend, Britt.” Jake laughs. I wave to Britt, she smiles, and says hi.
After a little bit of talking, Jake invites me to go to the shore with them. I agree, and walk along Chace’s side on the way down. “How are you liking it here?” He asks. He runs a hand through his dark hair, and adjusts his shirt.
    “It’s beautiful.” I smile.
“The sunset here,” He smiles. “It’ll leave you speechless.” He laughs. We find a spot in the sand next to Jake and Britt. I feel my phone vibrate, and I check the clock. 7:35, crap. I get up from the sand.
“I have to go...” I sigh.
“Wait,” Chace gets up. “Party tonight, down here, you in?” He asks.
    “Totally.” I laugh.
“It’s our annual masquerade, so wear a cute dress and a mask.” Britt laughs. I run back to my house, and open the door. My mom is sitting on the countertop eating a piece of pizza, while watching a movie.
“Sorry! I lost track of time...” I sigh, and grab a piece of pizza from the box. “Can I go to a party tonight?”
“Where?” She raises an eyebrow. “When?”

    chapter one ; part one
I walk into the airport, and stay as close as I can to my mom. I get nervous at the security check, but I walk through. Nothing beeps, and they tell me I’m good to go. I sit in the front on the plane, closest to the window. My mom sits in the back corner, already fast asleep. I sit nervously, with my leg starting to shake.
From the corner of my eye, I see a small figure sit down next to me. I look over, and see girl that looks fifteen. Her lightly colored hair is pulled back in a messy bun, and she’s wearing an oversized shirt, with grey skinnies. She smiles at me, and puts in her headphones. She taps her foot to the music, and I look back out the window.
“Excuse me,” A tall boy sits in between us. I smile to myself, and look towards him. He has dark hair, and bright green eyes. He’s tanned, and doesn’t look like he’s from around here.
“Hey.” He catches me looking at him.
“Hi,” I feel my face start to burn. I look back out the window.
“Excuse me, miss... You’re supposed to be one row back, this seat belongs to someone else, sorry for the inconvenience.” The flight attendant smiles at the lightly colored haired girl. I shrug it off, and close my eyes.
I open my eyes, when I feel the plane take off. The flight attendant speaks into the microphone, echoing throughout the plane. I buckle the belt, and turn towards the seat where the boy was. He moved over one more seat, and looks at me. He laughs a little, and pulls out his ear-bud.
“I’m Jake by the way.” He smiles.
“I’m Ember.” I smile back. There’s no way this guy is actually talking to me. I debate on pinching myself, but I want to keep the conversation going with Jake. “Where are you going, if you don’t mind me asking...” I say. I must sound so stupid.
“A little town in Oregon called Newport. You?” He keeps the conversation going.
“Newport.” I laugh, finding it ironic that we’re going to the same place.
    “Visiting?”
    “Moving...” I sigh.
“Oh, I’ve lived there for the past couple of years with my grand-parents. I came back to visit my mom.” He slowly moves back to the seat he was originally in. He continues to tell me about Newport, and the people in it. Maybe this is move is going to be a good thing.
“The plane will now be landing, please latch your seat-belts!” I watch Jake scoot back into his seat, and latch his buckle. I buckle mine, and put my headphones back in. I feel the plane going down, and I get excited. I see the coastline, and tap Jake’s strong shoulder.
“Is that Newport?” I ask, knowing that I sound stupid.
“Yeah,” he laughs. “Beautiful, isn’t it?”
“Very!” I smile. I unlatch my buckle, and grab my carry-on. I follow Jake out to the small airport, and wait for my mom.

    introduction
“Ember!” My mom comes into my room. “We’re leaving soon.” She smiles, picking up a few boxes I had at the door. I look around at my empty room. I guess it’s time to go across the country, to a town I’ve never heard of. I run my hand along the empty wall, to the small light switch. I flick it off, and grab my suitcase.
“Ready...” I say, sitting on the bottom step of the stairs, trying to tug on a new pair of converse. My mom gives me a smirk, and I follow her out the door. I hop into the back seat of the cab, waiting for my mom to sit on the other side. “Good-bye New Hampshire!” I smile. I’m glad to be getting out of this small town. I haven’t made many friends between the time we moved here, and now. I latch the safety belt, and put in my headphones. Maybe this move is best for me. New state, new school, new friends... New me.
Authors Note: Alright, so... I'm not sure about this story. I started it. I've gotten the first three chapters done, but I'm not sure about them. If you guys like the intro, fave it. If I get 5 or more faves, then I'll continue it.(:
