Chapter 4
Sarah:
I ran fast and made my way over to the boy. He had floppy dark brown hair, light skin, and a crooked nose that only a boy could pull off, but he definitely pulled it off well.
He was laying on his back, eyes closed. I checked to see if he was breathing. "Oh my god, please don't be dead, please." I kept saying under my breath. I felt his neck for pulse, he was alive. He had a t-shirt wrapped tightly around his stomach, blood seeping though, and a healing burn mark on his shoulder near my hand. I tried to think of what I should do. Andrew! I thought, his father was a docter. He lived so close, I knew I could get this boy there, but it wasn't going to be easy. I lifted the shirt off his waist and saw a wound that was pouring blood.
I re-tied it tightly and tried sitting him up, getting him out of this pool of his own blood.
The boys eyes shot open immediately. A small shriek escaped my lips. "H-hi" I said, "are you okay?" I knew he wasn't, I didn't know what to say. "No" he said so quietly I almost didn't catch it. "okay I need to get you out of here, now. Help me!" I said, being surprisingly brave. He looked at me, then his eyes starting closing slowly, and he soon became limp in my arms.
I knew I couldn't waste anymore time, I grabbed him under his arms and half carried, half dragged him along the street. He would wake up suddenly here and there, and try to help me, but pass out right after.
I finally made it to Andrew's house, it was basically dark now. I dropped the boy by the front steps and ran to knock on the door. His father answered. His salt and pepper hair was tousled and his glasses were hanging low on his nose. "Mr. Zander, I need your help!" I was practically screaming, "this boy, I found him on the street, he looks awful, you need to fix him!" He seemed startled, and looked over my shoulder at the boy. "Okay, bring him in, quickly." he said. I looked at him pleadingly and he realized he needed to help me. We grabbed the boy and carried him into the house.
We awkwardly layed him on a table when Mrs. Zander came in and started asking so many questions it made my head spin. I was frustrated. "Mrs. Zander! I found this boy on the street, I didn't know what else to do!"
She opened her mouth to say something, but I noticed her staring at something behind me. I turned, it was Andrew. I ran to him and "I'm sorry I brought him here, as I was just explaining to your mom, I didn't know what else to do."
He didn't look at me, only at the boy, and his father. He walked past me, "It's okay." he mumbled.
Mr. Zander took the t-shirt off of the boy. The wound looked so much better than when I had seen it. Maybe I was just panicking. He worked for an hour or so, and I rufused to leave until the boy woke up.
Mrs. Zander and I cleaned the boy up, all the blood and dirt he had been full of was gone, and now I had nothing to do but wait. All the others went into the living room, where each of them proceeded to fall asleep.
How could they sleep while this was going on?
Hours past. I didn't even know what time it was.
The boy mumbled, and moved slightly.
I looked at him with hopeful eyes, thinking I had saved a life.
His eyes popped open, and he looked at me. "Hi" he said "Um, hi" I responed.
He smiled, a nice white smile, "You saved my life you know?" he said. "Yeah, I'm aware" I said. I couldn't help but smile back."What's your name?" I asked.
"Daniel."
Daniel, I thought. rather ordinary name for what had just gone down. "What's yours?" he said.
"Oh, um, it's Sarah" I said with a smile. "Sarah, okay," he said "where are we?"
"We're at my friend Andrew's house I --"
"No," he interrupted "I mean, like, what state? City?"
I was confused as to why he didn't know. Amnesia from something, maybe?
"We're in Richmond, Virginia" I said.
"We should probably get out of here... are they sleeping in there?" he asked. I was surprised. "Leave? We can't leave! You probably can't even walk!" I exclaimed. He got off the table and started walking. "See? I'm fine. We should go, I don't like it here." he said "Any place I could stay? Hotel, motel?"
I really looked at him now. He had green eyes, which I couldn't see before, he was skinny but muscular, abs included. he was tall, and definitely fierce looking, but so sweet at the same time. Definitely attractive.
"Yeah, we can go to my house" I said
"but.. your parents..."
"Not a problem. Let's go."
We walked though the living room toward the door I opened it only to see Daniel staring at Andrew, who was still fast asleep. "Daniel? Can we go?" I said. He slowly walked over to me and we left the house without another sound.
As we were walking I thought to myself..
What are you doing?
