I know it means nothing coming from some random person on the Internet, but I really do think it'll work out just fine. I've seen fights between close friends, I've been through them. It's only bad at first, then... well, then you just know each other that much better!

Yeah, I get that. I think I can really relate to this, not because nobody I know is artistic in any way, but because they think literature is a waste of time. Because of that, I let them know, in many ways, that I will not follow their patterns, just to get rid of unwanted expectations. After generations and generations of doctors and engineers, I almost always answer with "psychology and philosophy" when people ask what I'd want to study. Now my parents are used to the idea of me being a bit weird. So now I almost always skip the advice about me wasting my time on arts and literature
