Falling Snow
.:8:.
The week dragged on.
I spent most of my time with Jessica and Liam. Sometimes Jared and Henry would join us, but only if Kath was there.
We didn't do much besides watch TV, but it didn't really matter. It was nice to relax. And Liam was a pretty cool kid.
Nothing changed until New Year's Eve.
Every year, my grandparents (being the party animals that they are) hold a New Year's party.
It involves cranky children who are tired but refuse to go to sleep until midnight, drunk relatives, random neighbors and family friends (most of whom I don't know), lots and lots of firecrackers and fireworks being set off in the backyard, and overall insanity.
In short, it was the last place I would ever want to be.
But when New Year's Eve rolled around, and I hadn't come up with an excuse to stay in my room for the majority of the evening, my mother gave me a shopping list and instructions for me and Jess to go to the grocery store.

"Do I have to?" I whined. My mother gave me a look.
"Your grandparents put alot of effort into this party, you should be grateful."
"Why can't Jared?"
"He's helping grandpa out back. Now shoo, we have to clean the living room." She said, shoving me and Jess out into the cold weather.
"God." Jess said, kicking at a stone on the pavement of the driveway. "Okay, let's go." We climbed into the car and soon we were strolling down the aisles of FoodMart and More.
"What do we need?" I said, looking over the crumpled list.
"Olives." Jess said, pulling a jar of olives down from the shelf. "You know who likes olives?"
"Who?" I asked, scanning the list.
"Liam does." I felt my cheeks grow hot.
"What about it."
"Oh, just, you know. Liam likes olives. And I know someone who likes Liam." Jess said casually, looking at the jar in her hand.
"And who would that be?" I asked, putting a bottle of vegetable oil into my basket.
"You!" Jess said, smiling.
"I do not!" I said, my face obviously burning.
"You totally do!" Jess said, "Don't deny it, Cam!"
"You're insane." I said, walking off down the aisle. She ran after me.
"Seriously, you do."
"Jess. I swear to god." Because I didn't. Liam was just my friend. And what was I to him anyways? Nothing. Just a family friend.
"Cammie, you can't fight the love." She said, putting her hand over her heart in an exxagerated manner. "It was meant to be. It's fate, darling."
"You are officially insane." I said, laughing. Jess smiled wickedly.
"Well, you have to tell him now."
"No! I don't like him Jess!"
"But you do! And if you don't, I will!" She said, practically dancing, and sprinting away into the frozen foods section.
Oh. My. God.
