    Immortality
    Chapter 3
That night, I lay wide awake in bed, contemplating many things. I knew I had seen a girl. I couldn’t be going crazy and seeing things, could I? No, I answered myself. I knew what I saw. I repeated that in my head, and began to grow annoyed. There probably was a maid, and the old man was just losing his memory. Out of irritation, I hopped out of bed, slipped on some navy sweat pants, and tip-toed out of the room into the long dark hallway. A clock stroke midnight somewhere downstairs. What a perfect time to go exploring.
I made my way down the endless corridor, opening each door I came to, only to find empty rooms. I turned each corner, and still found the same things. Finally, I found a smaller door than the rest. I pulled it open, only to find a small wooden staircase leading down. It was probably and old servants stairway, I thought to myself. I made my way down to the bottom of the old creaky stairs, feeling my way through the dark until I felt a doorknob in my hand. I turned it hesitantly, opened the door, and was rushed by a shot of cold wind. The door led outside. I stepped out cautiously, and closed the door behind me. A well sized courtyard lay beyond, with woods and a small lake behind it. It was quite beautiful at night, and I imagined it would be even better in the daytime. I walked across the yard, and found myself dancing. I spun in circles, and laughed out loud. I felt so free, for the first time in what seemed like forever. I fell onto the soft grass, only to feel a large hand grasp my shoulder. I shrieked in surprise, and turned around. There stood a boy around my age, with dark hair that framed his face and fell into his eyes, which were a bewitching grey. I smiled sheepishly and took a few steps back.
    “W-who are you?” I stammered.
He smiled in reply, and answered, in a surprising Irish accent, “Damon.”
“And what are you doing here?” I managed to say.
“Wandering, letting go. Same as you, I assume.”
“Oh… Um, well I must be on my way then!” I then turned, hurrying towards the castle.
“No! Oh wait, please don’t… frightening you was the least of my intentions. You may go, but please, promise you’ll meet me here tomorrow night.” He sighed. “Same time as today? I really must see you again.”
Everything I knew was screaming at me to bluntly reply no and speed out of there. But something tugged at me from beneath my ribs, willing me to turn around.
“Sure.” I replied, and sped off into the darkness.

    Immortality
    Chapter 2
The flight was over fairly quick, but it gave me time to have a short nap. I easily collected my luggage from the revolving conveyor belt and looked around me. A man around the age of forty held a sign that easily read my name, Rosalie. I shuffled up to him, and flashed my best smile. He grunted in reply, turned, and began to walk. What a welcoming gentleman, I thought to myself. I almost had to sprint to keep up with him. Finally, we approached a small blue Volkswagen Bug. He opened my door for me, and I stepped inside, ducking low so as not to hit the ceiling of the unconventional car.
The drive to the house was like no other. I stared out of my window unconsciously and took in the beautiful scenery. The green plains seemed to stretch on forever, with rolling hills in between. When we finally did make it to the house, I had to blink a few times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. In front of me stood a three story castle that was made entirely of grey stone. My jaw dropped in astonishment. “Lynche Manor.” The man spoke in a low monotone. I quickly followed him into the huge front doors, and bombarded him with questions. “First of all,” I inquired, “Who are you?” He snorted my way. “Names Will.” He spoke. “My relation to you? Uncle. Your grandmothers brother. Now go upstairs and unpack. There are almost 30 rooms in this house, you must find at least one to your liking.” Strange.. Gram never mentioned any brothers.
I nodded in response, and trotted through the enormous sitting room, to the eerie looking staircase to the right. I dragged my pink nylon suitcase behind me, as I climbed the endless steps. As I approached the top landing, I made my way to the first room I saw in the long corridor. When I looked inside, my breath caught in my throat. It was beautiful. A large, four poster bed sat dead center in the room, with purple tapestries fit for a king. Black curtains covered the tall stained glass window on the right wall. A brown, delicately carved wardrobe stood at the far wall, and a matching wood trunk sat at the food of the bed. I dropped my suitcase, and plopped down onto the trunk. Maybe, just maybe, I could enjoy myself here.
At around five o’clock, I started to make my way down the twisting staircase, when I came face to face with a stunning girl. She stood a few inches taller than me, with amazing green eyes and bright red hair that traveled down her back in tight ringlets. She didn’t seem to be much older than me, and was dressed in grey maid’s wear with an ivory apron. Her mouth opened in a tiny “O” of surprise, and she started to hurry in the other direction. “Wait!” I called out to her, running in her direction. When I reached the last step and turned the corner, she was nowhere to be seen. I looked around in astonishment. Who was that strange girl, and where had she disappeared to?
I quickly made my way to the sitting room, only to find Will sitting at the table, with a newspaper in his hands. He looked up at me, nodded toward the chair across from him, and set the paper down. I sat with my hands in my lap, and then began to speak. “So, I met the maid.”
“We don’t have a maid.” He replied bluntly.
“Oh no, but you must!” I argued, “I saw a girl earlier.. She was quite stunning, actually. Long red hair and bright green eyes.”
His body seemed to tense, then he slowly shook his head. “No one else lives in this house.” He almost growled. “It’s just you and me. Sorry to disappoint you.”
    Well he was friendly. Not.
“So, are you hungry?” he inquired after a moment of silence.
“No, but thank you for asking.” I mumbled, and sauntered out of the room.

    Immortality
    Chapter 1
She looked weak and fragile in her small twin sized bed. Her skin clung to her bone in soft folds, giving her a sickly look. Her eyes were tinged with sadness. “You’re destined for great things… I know it.” She whispered. Yes, that was my grandmother, always mumbling things that didn’t quite make sense to me. Tears ran quietly down my pale cheeks as I gently gave her hand a squeeze. I wondered if this was some kind of cruel joke of life. Taking every last person that ever loved and cared for me away.
Her hand reached up, then, and brushed a dark lock of hair from my eyes. She stared blankly at the ceiling then, drawing in one last pained breath. I didn’t need proof to know that that would be her last. I reached my cold hand up, brushing her eyes closed. And In that moment, she looked perfectly content, something I hadn’t seen in a while due to her sickness. I wept for what seemed like hours, not knowing what to do with myself.
It had been two weeks since my grandmother Elizabeth had died. Apparently, I was to go live with a distant relative in Ireland. Of course I should have been thankful that I wouldn’t have to stay in a dreadful orphanage, but part of me actually preferred that option. For one, I didn’t know anything about the person I was to spend the rest of my adolescent life with. And secondly, I was very fond of gram. My heart clenched at the thought of her. I could picture her clearly in my mind, smiling softly, and telling me enchanting stories of her childhood. Then and there I made a promise to myself, not to think of my lost grandmother. I will smile, and if anyone should ask how I am, I shall tell them I am fine, I thought to myself. Things were going to change here. I would no longer be the girl with no parents, and only her grandmother to be responsible for her. I would be a completely new person.
Of course, the day I was to go to Ireland was the day of my sixteenth birthday. What a coincidence. I sighed silently to myself. While most girls would have had an absurdly big party and receive a car, I simply bought a large banana nut muffin in the airport, closed my eyes, and wished. I wished for something extraordinary to happen to me. “Flight 42 to Dublin.” A nasally voice spoke over the speaker system. Quickly I shoved the last of the muffin into my mouth and ran for the terminal.
