The Night That Changed My Life Forever
Chapter 2
It all began in my 9:30 Saturday morning ballet class. Usually these classes are everlasting since I'm too tired to barely even move but today was different. As I walked into the studio, up the stairs, and down the hall to my dressing room, my mind was set on only one thing: The Cast List. As I stand at the barre, my legs shake from anxiety and excitement. I sous-sous on pointe but my legs give out and my teacher looks at me with a look of despa- wait, this time she looked at me and I think I saw a smile! That's unusual for someone like me.
At last class is excused! Today I didn't even bother changing out of my leotard and bolted down the stairs to be the first to see the cast. As usual I had that glimmer of hope inside me that one day I would be the lead, but I'm almost always shot down. Let's just say I'm not the best dancer, but if they just gave me the chance, maybe I could prove them wrong.
Finally, I stood in front of the list, legs shaking and sweat dripping down each stand of hair that found its way out of my tight bun. I almost automatically scan the bottom to find my name lost in the giant list of corps dancers, the ones who arent good enough for the lead. I found it almost strange that my name wasn't there. Suddenly a voice spoke behind me, "Congratulations, Sophia!" It was Rachel, a fellow corps dancer for years.
"Thanks...ummm, you too," I said, sounding a little suprised. After she walked away, I wondered why she would congratualte me for the small part I probably got, but then I noticed it, plain as day at the top of the list:
This Year's Spring Performance: Romeo and Juliet
Cast
Juliet: Sophia Sinclair
And that's all I needed to see. "Please, if I'm dreaming, wake me up...it isn't fair!" I said to myself. I pinched my arm a few times and this was real. I studied my name over and over again, unware of the growing crowd waiting behind me. Nope...no mistake, that is my name. Everyone behind me congratualted me and hugged me, and for the first time ever, I felt important. I grabbed my dance bag and flew out the door. I couldn't wait to tell my parents! "Oh they'll be so proud!" I screamed in the parking lot. At last, I was at the top of the list...the leading role!
