The Monster Inside
Chapter One
"Hello students! Welcome to 8th grade! My name is Miss Cook and I will be your homeroom teacher! I also teach honors LA, so some of you will be in my class."
I looked over at my best friend Jade as my fingers moved furiously across my lap. She made the crazy sign at Miss Cook. I laughed silently as the bell rang.

Seventy two steps to next period. Gym. An entire period of the gym teachers telling us "what to expect in 8th grade gym/health". Their words, not mine. My fingers moved furiously as they droned on and on. Finally the bell rang and I shuffled off to the next class.

Three long periods later, it was lunch. I surveyed the cafeteria for Jade and my other friend, Reese. I saw my old "friends" who had exiled me from the group. They were sitting there laughing, probably at someone else's expense. I rolled my eyes and spotted Jade and Reese.
I plopped down in the seat and pulled out my sandwich.
"Hey" I said.
"Sup" said Jade.
"Smey Gasmeen" said Reese through a mouthful of PB&J.
"I mean hey Yasmin." she tried again. "So you know that cute blondie in my art class?"
"Umm no." said Jade and I shook my head.
"Well he's from Norway and his family used to heard reindeer." she said.
"So he doesn't know how crazy you are yet?" I said.
"Shut up!" she said jokingly. "He seemed interested!"
"Yea ok." said Jade and we all laughed.

That night I lay in bed, with horrible thoughts running through my head.
*Did someone remember to turn off the stove? What the house burns down and we can't get the cat out and he dies? What if the house collapses and causes an earthquake and it kills a bunch of people? I can't live if that happened!*
No wonder I never sleep.

Prologue
One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty twenty-one twenty-two. Twenty two steps from the bus to the front door of school. Twenty two steps to 8th grade. My fingers raced to finish typing the last part of "twenty-two". They jumped around by my sides the whole way to my new homeroom. Seventy-threesteps from the door to homeroom. Ten to the teachers desk, and then twenty to my seat. This is my life. Numbers and patterns and repetition. Welcome to my nightmare.
