Don't worry. It's easier than that. Just sit down near him with your lunch and don't look at him. Don't ask him what he likes--that's like winkling a snail out of his shell with a toothpick (uncomfortable for the snail). After a while just offer him a bit of your lunch and say, "I don't like this. Do you want it?" Chances are, he'll take it. Then don't say much. The ice is broken, you've created a comfortable space, and it's his turn. I'm a grown man, and I was a shy kid. A girl at school offered to make me tea when she was making herself some. After that, we we're friends. I haven't seen her in decades, and I still think about her once in a while. It was one of the nicest moves anyone ever made.
