In that moment I could not tear my eyes away from his, absolutely everything else had faded away and for those short seconds it was only the two of us, standing ankle deep in the freezing ocean. When we first walked in the cold was like stabs of pain in our feet and ankles and after the first minute I felt they may actually fall off. Then just when I thought I couldn't bear it for another second, we turned to look at each other and it was like everything else just slipped away with the water. Despite the freezing liquid I was standing in, a warm sensation rushed through my veins, melting everything inside of me. Before then, I had never taken a moment to look in his eyes and see the clear silky green mixed in with the deep brown, and the way they shined brighter even than the most lustrous star. Time froze as I looked at his stunning eyes, and to my enchantment they stared back at me with the same awe. I don't want to forget that moment, for as long as I live I will know that was the first time we really looked at each other. Sadly, it ended almost as quickly as it started and we had to look away. So we ran back to the shore but I know we were both thinking about it. I know that when we closed our eyes that night, we were standing in that water again, trying to grasp the entirety of it. Studying every second, and trying to make sense of the metamorphosis that occurred in just a small fraction of time. Maybe words alone cannot explain what changed that day. Maybe it can only be described by the tingling in my bones when I simply think about it, or the butterflies I get from replaying the memory or the way my heart jumps when I see him.
