Chapter Twenty-Four, Part Two~Nate
"I don't know what happened!" I exclaimed, finally getting my normal voice back. Everyone was silent. Kelsey was the first one to speak. "You and Joey got into a car accident coming home. It's almost three in the morning." I closed my eyes as everything came back to me. Those terrified few moments of consciousness before and after the impact of the oncoming car were brutal to remember. "Oh my God," I groaned. Then I remembered a crucial part about why the accident had happened in the first place. "Kelsey, I meant to call you, but Jo-" She smiled at me, "It's okay, Nate. We can talk about it later, don't worry about it." I was glad that she wasn't mad. Kate must have told her everything, and called her to come here too. I'd have to thank her. "We were so drunk," I remembered, glancing over at my mom. "I know," she sighed, and her face darkened. "You're in so much trouble for that, Nathaniel. So much." I had to restrain myself from rolling my eyes. "Why am I not drunk right now?" I asked. "You lost a lot of blood," Charlotte piped up. "That's probably why." I nodded and smirked slightly. "Cool, no hangover." Kate rolled her eyes and Mom scowled at me. Charlotte cracked a smile. "This hurts like a -" I remembered my mom was in the room, so I edited what I was going to say. "This hurts a lot." My mother's eyes were worried. "What hurts, baby?" she asked. I thought about it for half a second. "Everything," I said. The door swung open, and Alex walked in, followed by the 'creepy doctor', who held a bag for the micro-drip. I sighed in relief. "Sore?" the doctor asked. "Worse than sore," I replied. "Okay, well, I'm going to put some narcotics in your IV for you. The morphine should help dull the pain, and you'll probably get some sleep, too." I nodded thankfully. "Oh, your right arm is broken, that's why the pain is so intense there," he added. "Yeah, I noticed that," I grimaced. "I'll have it casted as soon as possible. You were in critical condition, so it wasn't really an option at the time." I had so many questions to ask, but as soon as the doctor left after talking for about ten minutes with my mom, I started to feel the affects of the morphine. My eye lids got really heavy, and I struggled to stay awake. Kelsey was right beside me. She leaned in and whispered, "I love you, Nate. You're so strong." I smiled a little bit and answered, "So are you, but I love you more." Before she could start to argue, I drifted off to sleep.
