“I don’t think that I can do this, Kylie,” Alexa whimpered once we were standing outside of our front door. We had just walked home from eating, and Alexa decided that she had to tell our parents, because, well, she decided that she wanted to keep the baby.
“Lex, this is the right choice. It may not be ideal for our parents, but it’s what you want, so you have to do it. Everything’ll be fine, I pinky promise.”
I smiled at my twin sister, but inside I was shaking. If I was terrified about this moment, I couldn’t even imagine how Alexa would feel.
“Ky, I can’t.”
“Okay, Lex. They’re going to find out when your stomach inflates to the size of a basketball, so it’s probably better to just tell them now.”
She didn’t say anything, and I didn’t doubt her, because I was pretty much speechless myself.
We walked into the quiet house, and I thought about how different it would be with the crying baby in only a few short months.
Our mother was sitting at the kitchen table on her laptop, clicking through webpages of upcoming open houses, since she was a real estate agent.
“Mom?” Alexa muttered so quietly that it was almost inaudible. My mother didn’t even look up from her laptop. I nudged Alexa, and she just glared at me, but spoke up again anyway. “Mom. I have something really important to talk to you about.
“What, Alexa Marie, is so important that we must talk at this exact moment?” She only used our first and middle names when she was really stressed or angry, which probably wasn’t a good sign at this time.
“Well,” Alexa mumbled. “I just found out that I’m,” She paused and looked over at me uncertainly. I nodded, encouraging her to continue what she was saying. “Pregnant.”
My mom was silent. She looked at Alexa’s still flat stomach, and then at me.
“Is she joking, Kylie Beth?”
“Not even in the slightest.”
Without another word, she slammed her laptop closed and pushed the chair she had been sitting on over. “I don’t ever want to see Blake in this house again!” She snapped. “You will get an abortion, because I don’t already need my family’s name tarnished in this new town. If you decide not to, I sure as hell hope that your father will help you, because if it was up to me, I would kick you out of this house right now, Alexa Marie Cartwright. Now get out of my sight, I can’t even look at you right now.”
I grabbed Alexa’s hand, and led her out of the kitchen. My sister began sobbing, and I couldn’t even think of words to console her, because I was so disgusted with my own mother’s behavior.Wow, I know it's been ages, and I apologize. Things are just crazy right now! I hope you all like this chapter though:) I'll try to write more often!
