Long but worth a read
a few years ago, my little cousin had a best friend.
he had a brain tumor. he was 5.
at my little cousins birthday party, his friend was there.
he was the happiest and cutest child
i had ever met.
when it was time for the piñata, we had it in the garage.
once it was broken open,
everyone dove in for the candy and the prizes.
everyone except for the little boy.
he stood behind the whole group,
only grabbing the candy
that managed to escape the grabbing hands of the toddlers.
i was one of the older kids of the group,
so i had filled my whole bag.
i felt terrible for the boy when i saw him with almost no candy.
so i went over there and i gave him
my whole bag full of candy.
his eyes just lit up
in front of me and he smiled a huge smile.
his mom just was so happy and thanked me many times
and my mom said she was so
proud.
a few months later,
cancer claimed the life of that young boy.
and even though i had only met him once,
i cried. and cried.
i just hope that even that small
gesture of giving him a bag of
candy, i just hope that
i made just a little difference
in the short life of that 5 year old boy.

click the heart if you have lost someone
to cancer, or you think that
cancer is a terrible and unfair
disease.
