2 Girls 1 Dream
Chapter 1
I walked up on stage and looked at all the screaming fans. I looked at the 3 judges sitting in front of the stage. I’m going to make it through I thought. I have to. This is the moment that I can prove to everyone that I have what it takes to make it. I will win this. I will.
*1 Month before*
“You have to sing in the talent show!” Sydney said sitting her tray next to mine.
I laughed, “Ha, screw that. I hate standing on stage. I will probably wet my pants.” I replied. I’m so not going to sing. What’s the point? It’s just a stupid talent show.
She looked at me frowning. “But you have to! You’re so good! And how would you know if you hate singing on stage or not? You haven’t been on stage since you were 5. Things change Ashley. Who knows, maybe you’ll like it!” She said shoving a chicken nugget into her mouth.
“I highly doubt that. I know things change but I don’t think that did. I don’t care if I was five or not. I passed out on stage. Ugh! It was so embarrassing. Now that we’re freshmen if I do that it’s going to be 100,000 times more embarrassing. I wouldn’t be able to show my face in school! I would have to put on a mustache cut my hair and change my name to Pepito!” I violently ripped the chicken nugget in half with my teeth.
“Ashley please! For me? You’re so amazing. You shouldn’t let your past mes up your future! Just do this talent show for me and I’ll leave you alone about the singing subject for the rest of your life!” She begged.
I really didn’t want to. I was just getting nervous thinking about it. If I messed up I would be the biggest loser in high school. But yet a little part of me told me to do it. I didn’t know what to do. I had to make up my mind in the next 3 seconds or Sydney will bug me for the rest f my life.
“If I say yes will you shut up?” I asked.
Her face immediately lit up and a big smile spread across her face.
“If I do this stupid talent show thing, you have to play guitar.” I gave her the best puppy dog face I have ever done.
“That’s the worst puppy dog face I have ever seen.” She laughed, “But sure. I’ll play guitar.” She smiled.
Then the police walked through the door.
“Great, the police are here to arrest Jimmy again. When will he learn that you can’t bring cocaine to a school that brings drug dogs in almost every two weeks?” Syd said looking very annoyed.
“Boys and girls of Flushing Michigan High School, please carry on with what you’re doing.” The principal yelled over the already loud lunch room.
So we did just that. We went back to eating and talking about drama. The usual everyday lunch table conversation. We dropped the subject of the talent show and I was thankful for that.
“Miss.Thompson?” I heard a voice say from behind me. It was the police. What would they want with me? I’ve never done drugs in my life. Ever, and I wasn’t planning on it either.
“What?” I asked.
“You’re going to have to come with us.” The police officer motioned for me to get up out my chair. I noticed the lunch room got deadly quiet and everyone was staring at me. I instantly turned bright red and looked away from everyone.
“B- But why?” I stuttered.
“We’ll tell you when we get to the scene.” The scene? What scene? A crime scene? I didn’t murder anyone! I’m 16 years old for God’s sake!
I stood up and walked out of the lunch room. Why do I need to come to a crime scene? Do they need my help? No. I’m no investigator.
We got into the police car and we drove down Main Street and pulled over in front of Kathy’s Restaurant. We got out of the car and I noticed reporters surrounding the place and yellow tape round the building. What happened? Did someone have a heart attack or something? Where was my mom? She works at Kathy’s. She was only 36 and pretty healthy. She’s probably around here somewhere.
“6 homicides…” I heard a reporter say. Six? Holy Jesus what happened? “5 customers and 1 waitress…” I heard another say.
Oh god. Oh god not my mom. I know it wasn’t her. She isn’t dead. She got out alive I know it. She had to, she’s the only person I’ve got left.
I saw body bags being rolled out of the restaurant. I ran over and ducked under the tape. I ran to the first body bag and looked up at the paramedic.
“Please, just tell me, is this Susie Thompson?” I asked.
He nodded.
