Catch Me if You Can
Chapter 22
Harry's eyes were so sharp and determined.
I held in my breath, in fear of what Harry had to urgently tell me.
Seconds gone by, but they felt like eternity.
I was getting impatient by now, I was literally trembling with curiosity.
Harry suddenly sucked in a deep breath, as he bit his lips.
"Did you notice that Dani wasn't at the party today?" he asked.
I stared up at him, as my eyes roamed his perfect face, nodding.
"That's the thing... you see..."
"She got ran over by a car?" I asked excitedly.
Harry frowned. "No, not that-"
"She fell off a cliff and broke her neck?" I asked, beaming with wild thoughts.
Harry's rosy lips had twitched up into a bewildered smirk by now. "Colby, not that either. Listen-"
"Oh! Wait! She got pushed into the ocean and got eaten by a shark?!" I gushed.
Harry's hands wrapped around both of my wrists.
The grin wiped off of my face, as my heart raced at the fact that he was holding me.
Harry pressed his forehead agaisnt mine, as I flushed from our short distance.
"Why do you sound so excited at those thoughts of my ex-girlfriend?" he whispered.
My eyes widened.
No way. Did he just say-?
"You broke up with her?" I asked, almost too shocked to speak.
Harry's lips twitched up to a small smile, as he nodded.
Horror washed over my face, as I pushed Harry's body away from mine gently.
I began searching both of his arms, looking for bruises or cuts.
"Colby! What are you doing?" he asked, pulling his arms away.
"Oh God! You broke up with Dani?! She must've freaked on you!" I cried.
Harry shook his head, as brown locks went flying out of his face.
"No! She didn't kill me. She just got angry... and thought that I was leaving her for..." he paused, looking at me intently. "you."
My heart wrenched, as my gaze dropped to the wooden flooring of the deck.
"M-me? O-oh." I hesitated, licking my lips.
It wasn't true, now was it?
Harry would've never broken up with Dani for someone like me.
Dani had long, platinum blonde hair. Her icy blue eyes could seduce any man she wanted. She was tall and thin enough to be a model, and to top it all off, she had a gorgeous tan complexion.
Me? I was the complete opposite of Dani.
My hair was nothing special; straight and dark brown. My eyes were also a boring shade of brown. I was average in height, and I was thin, but barely had any curves. My skin was pale, even after all the sunburns I had recieved this summer.
Straight to the point, I was never going to be better than Dani.
I felt Harry's long, lean fingers tilt my chin up, as he took a brace step closer to me.
I gulped, as I forced myself to look at his blazing eyes.
"Why do you sound so disappointed?" he asked, eyes shining.
"I'm not." I lied, turning my face away from him.
Harry traced his warm hands down my cheek, as he leaned in.
I closed my eyes, waiting for his lips to come in contact with mine.
But, I didn't want them to.
Harry must've noticed my flinching, because he brushed his lips agaisnt my cheek, instead.
