Rose Dawns P.O.V
Phone call. (1)
Loud and disturbing. The phone rings.
It interrupts my dream, which was so vivid.
It rings again, making me more alert. Who would ring at this time of night?
What was it? 2 or 3 in the morning? Then I started to panic.
It must be an emergency so I lift my legs out of bed as fast as I can make them. My head spins from getting up too quick.
Every ring of the phone was loud against the silence of the empty night. My hands were quick as they grabbed the phone.
“Hello?” I say with panic laced through the word.
“Is this a family member of Thomas Dawn?” said a hard, unfamiliar voice.
“Yes, I’m his daughter, Rose. What’s wrong?” I said with worry in every word.
There was a small pause then a sigh from the stranger.
“I am so sorry Rose, to ring at this time of night but I have some horrible news to tell you”, the unknown voice was still hard, “Your fathers dead. His body was found in Westlegend woods about 2 hours ago and the ID he had in his pocket showed us it was Thomas Dawn. I am…”.
I hadn’t heard what the stranger said after that. I didn’t care.
I had dropped the phone. It crashed to the ground loudly.
I stood there, a shiver ran down my spine as the cold went straight through my light pyjamas. I felt numb, but pain ached in every bone. Each pound of my heart was twice as loud, echoing through my eyes. Suddenly arms were around me and I heard May’s voice.
“Rose, sweetheart, what’s wrong?”.
“What has happened?” she asked again after I said nothing.
“Dad. Is dead.” I managed to choke out.
What? No he isn’t. He can’t…” her voice turning to a whisper.
This couldn’t be true. Tears streamed down my face and over my lips. I felt like I was about to vomit. Mum was crying and holding me in her arms. My legs collapsed from beneath me.
I thought I would never breathe again. I cried myself into the deaf world of unconsciousness.
