Life of Lane
Chapter 1:
I woke up at five in the morning, sitting up in bed and stretching. It was my turn today to the the cook with breakfast. I heated up some water and scrubbed the dirt of my face and hands. I got dressed in camofladge skinny jeans, a loose black t-shirt, and black converse. I combed my black hair into a ponytail and put on the dog tags I found a few years ago. After getting ready, I jumped down the stairs and walked into the kitchen. "Stop making so much noise Lane, the girls will wake." The cook scowled me, handing me an apron.
I tied the straps around my waist and the back of my neck. "Get the bowls out, and the milk. I will get the stove running." The cook said, loading the stove with fire wood. I walked over to the fridge and pulled out two cartons of milk. The cook already had a large pot with dry oatmeal waiting to be cooked. "Pour in the milk." She comanded. I nodded and poured in the two cartons of milk. We let the oatmeal cook, getting out the bowls as it simmered. We filled each bowl half way when it was done.
The twenty four girls that lived in the orphange ran down the stairs and took their seats, waiting to be served. Each girl got their bowl of oatmeal, a glass of milk, and a piece of bread. I got two pieces of bread since I needed more food. Although, I gave up my two pieces of bread to the other girls. I felt like they needed more food than me. I ate my bowl of oatmeal and went back upstairs to help the girls get ready.
I was the oldest so I helped with everything. The second oldest girl was ten. The youngest, a little three year old. I helped each girl scrub the dirt of their faces and hands and under their nails. I helped each one get dressed in their uniform, a black skirt with a white coller shirt. I then put their hair in a bun and they were ready for school. They went to school in the orphange unlike me. Since I was older, I got to go to a public highschool where I didn't have to wear a uniform. Once each girl was heading off to class, I slipped on my backpack and headed to the bus stop, a mile away from our ophanage.
I got there just as the bus arrived, and I was soon sitting in the front seat, away from everyone else. The bus driver glanced at me, closed the door, and drove off to our school. When we arrived, I was the first one off. As I walked through the halls, people shoved me into locked and hit my books, making them fall to the floor. I ignored everyone, picked up my books, and got to my locker. Once I finished putting books in my locker and getting my book for class, I headed to class. I walked back through the hall to my class, where I sat down.
Everyone else came in after me, and we started class. "Alright students. Today we have a new student. Please welcome Sam Ashton." The teacher motioned for someone to come in. I starred wide-eyed at the person coming in. We haven't had a new student for ages!
(Author's note: Well, that was the first chapter. Sorry about it being boring, I promise it will get better.)
