THE OTHER DAY
the father of a victim of bullying came to my school. His son, Ryan, committed suicide after years of being bullied. The bullying started when Ryan was in 5th grade, after he had been taking out of the special ed classes. Ryan had a development problem, & hadn't said a word, until the age of 2. Once he finally caught up to the other students, on a level of education, things were expected to get better for him. But, things took the opposite turn. Ryan was constantly harassed by one & his friends. This went on for 2 years. When Ryan was in 7th grade, he was tired of getting picked on, day by day. He finally decided to learn how to fight. Then, Ryan tested out what he learned & had a fight with the bully. After the fight, things seemed to be getting better with Ryan. He said the bully became his friend. Or that is what he thought. Recently, Ryan had surgery. I don't quite remember on what, but he told his new "friend" about this surgery. The bully twisted his words around & told the whole school that Ryan was gay. During this same time, Ryan began using AIM. He used AIM constantly, to talk to the girl he liked, that he thought liked him back. Ryan decided to finally confront that girl in hopes of starting a relationship & destroying the gay rumor. But no, the girl told him that she had been kidding the whole time. She never liked him & he was a loser. She thought it was funny, but Ryan on the other hand did not. Ryan went up to that girl & said, "You are the reason guys like me, kill themselves." Later on, Ryan committed suicide. The whole presentation was inspirational & very, very, sad. Bullying has gotten to an outrageous point. STOP BULLYING, IN MEMORY OF RYAN HALLIGAN. R.I.P 1989-2003
