   My Friend, Ashley
   READ THIS TO UNDERSTAND THE STORY
   (This is a true story one of my friends told me)
   My friend Ashley (has the same name as me, but spelled different) died by child abuse when she was in 1st grade. I am now in 4th grade and she is to, only in Heaven.2
   CHAPTER 1 My New Friend
   I said by to my new friend, Ashley. "BYE!" I screamed as she loaded the bus. She waved goodbye to me. I watched her bruised face on the bus slowly make its way down the road. I wondered "Why is she so badly bruised?" my mom's car horn broke my thoughts. 4
   I opened the back door and climbed in. I shut the door and put my seat belt on. "How was your day?" my mom asked me. "Good. I made a new friend." I replied. My mom asked "What's her name?" I quickly replied "Ashley, but she has alot of bruises." before I could tell her more we were in the drive way.5
   CHAPTER 2 Over for Dinner
   After I did my homework the phone in my room rang. "Hello?" I answered. Ashley in a whisper said "Can I eat dinner at you house?" I said "Let me ask." I covered the receiver and yelled "MOM CAN ASHLEY EAT DINNER WITH US!?" my mom yelled back "SURE!" I uncovered the receiver and said "Ya." she whispered again and said "What's you address?" I told her my address. She whispered "See you in 30 minutes. Bye." before I could say "Bye." the line clicked.7
   CHAPTER 3 The Pain
   Ashley came over in less than 20 minutes. When I saw her face it had burn marks on her face, but I didn't ask her why. My dad came home and my brother was playing his PSP. My mom said "Dinner will be done in 20 minutes." Me and Ashley went to my room. "I need to talk to you." Ashley said. Before I could answer she silently cried and said "My mom has hit me, burned me and cut me! Please don't tell anyone." I looked at her face and said "Okay." but i wasn't sure.9
   CHAPTER 4 No One Believes Her10
   At dinner my mom asked "So why is your face bruised?" Ashley said "I'm abused." in a clear voice. Everyone laughed except me. My dad said "And I eat wood!" Ashley looked sad. 11
   After dinner Ashley said "I'll see you Monday." "Okay. See you Monday." I hugged her and she started saying something. This would be the last time I heard her voice.12
   CHAPTER 5 Its to Late13
   That Saturday I went over to Ashley's house, but stopped. In her yard a bunch of cops were questioning people and hand cuffing a lady abut 30. She had brown curly hair and a short lepored dress. As I saw a stretcher and I saw Ashley's face on it. I rushed over, but the police stopped me. I said "THAT'S MY FRIEND!" the police officer said "Go see her." 14
   When the people carrying the stretcher saw me they stopped. I saw Ashley's teethe knocked out her whole face purple and red. I ran and dropped right in front of my house, crying.15
   CHAPTER 6 The Funeral16
   I was standing there crying. My mom talking to the preacher person. I stood there and threw 2 things in her casket. A letter to her that I wrote and a class picture. I looked at her face for the last time...17
