    Keep Your Smile
    Chapter Three, part three
Adam’s arms were around Sarah. Her arms were around his neck. Adam was kissing her, and his eyes met hers. My eyes welled up with tears and I began trembling. That was not breaking up! Adam’s eyes trailed off for a moment and he saw me. He gasped and I shook my head. I ran out to the stairs, ignoring Adam’s calls of, “Shay! No, Shay, wait!” I sped down the stairs and was about to exit, but Adam’s arm grabbed mine. “Shay, I can explain…”
“Explain what? That you accidentally kissed her? That you forgot what breaking up is? That she just came home earlier than you told me? That you love her, but like me?”
    “Shay…”
“Stop,” I insisted, and my voice got all choked up. “I’m done with all this…”
    “Why did you come back?”
“You don’t even have the right to ask!” I shouted at him. I balled up my fists and swallowed the lump in my throat. “If you must know, I was kicked out. I only came because you were the only one who cared—seemed to care. But it was bullshit.”
“No, Shay, I lo—” he began.
“No, Adam, you don’t. You don’t do that to people you love.”
“Shay… Listen, Sarah kissed me,” he told me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I pushed him off.
“You liar!” I yelled and backed away. “Your arms were around her waist, you were looking into her eyes, who knows what would’ve happened if you didn’t see me.”
“Shay…. I’m sorry… I love you, I do; I just got caught up in the moment. I’m so sorry,” he apologized; his blue eyes looked into mine.
I looked back up into his. “You’re just sorry… that you got caught…” I dashed out the door and kept running, ignoring him calling my name. The tears streamed down my face and I collapsed onto the grass. I couldn’t stop crying. My whole body was shaking… He and Brian were no different. I had to quit my job. I had to leave. Soon. Now.

    Chapter eight part two
"Do you want something to drink?" Amy asked.
"I'm, sure. I'll have a coke." Shannon replied.
"Okay, I'll be back. Jessie, take her into the living room." She disappeared into the kitchen.
I guided Shannon into the living room and we took a seat on the couch.
I stared at Shannon for a moment. She reminded me so much of Kaci. Her strawberry blonde hair and brown eyes we exactly like Kaci's. The dimples in her cheeks and her wide smile too, reminded me of Kaci.
"So, it looks like you've been doing good." She said with a light smile.
"Yeah, I have." I smiled back. "What about you?"
"I've missed you, Jessie. Ever since you left that day I've felt so... alone." My smile vanished and I immediately felt sorry. Shannon and I had been so close when I was with Kaci. It was as if she was my own little sister.
"I've missed you too. And I'm sorry for leaving." She was quiet for a moment. Then, slowly, she leaned forward until our lips met.
Shannon's kiss caused memories of Kaci to flood my unshattered memory. The smell of Kaci's perfume as we laid in the grass at the park, staring up at the stars. The feel of her lips when she kissed me. The way her body felt against mine as we made love. Her kiss was warm and soft like Kaci's, but it lacked the passion Amy's kiss always held. Amy.
Quickly, I pulled away. "What are you doing?" I asked Shannon, wiping my mouth free of her light pink lipstick.
    "Kissing you." She said, confused.
"Well don't, okay? I have a girlfriend and a baby on the way." I practically hissed. Shannon's face grew solemn.
"But, I-I thought you liked me?" She whispered.
    "What made you think that?"
"That night, after Kaci died, you held me so gently. You said you would always be there for me. I waited for you to call, but you never did. I knew one day I would see you again, and I would run into your arms." My temper faded and my face softened.
"Oh Shannon, I'm so sorry. I held you because I needed someone. I was heartbroken. I told you I would always be there because you just lost a sister. I wanted to be like an older brother to you. I'm sorry." I watched as her face grew pained and sad as she realized what I had said.
"I-I should go." She stood up and bolted out of the room just as Amy entered it.
"She's leaving already?" Amy asked, setting two cokes down on the coffee table.
"Yeah. She had to unpack." I lied.
"Huh. I didn't even get to know her." I stared at Amy. Her light blonde hair was up in a ponytail. Her perfect curves and slight baby bump were hidden underneath a plain, white T-shirt. Her long, tanned legs showed in her light jean shorts. She was gorgeous.
"Amy, I don't want to lie to you." I finally said, getting to my feet. "Shannon kissed me. And I liked it." Amy looked shocked and appalled.
"But she's.... she's ...sixteen!" She shouted in anger.
"I know, I know." She didn't give me a chance to finish.
"You're going to leave me and your baby for a sixteen year old?"
"Whoa! Let's not go overboard with this! You didn't even let me finish." She crossed her arms over her chest, a tell-tell sign she was annoyed. "Yes, Shannon kissed me and I liked it. It reminded me of Kaci. Of all the times we spent together. But then your face popped into my head. You're perfect, flawless face. Shannon's kiss was warm and inviting, but it lacked all the passion of you. So I pushed her away and told her I didn't like her. Amy, I love you so much and I would never leave you for anyone. I'm here to stay whether you like it or not." I gently kissed her forehead, reassuring her of my love for her.
She sighed. "Damn it." She mumbled with her eyes closed. I chuckled.
    "What?" I asked softly.
"You're so hot which makes me unable to stay mad at you." I pulled away and smiled.
    "I am pretty sexy."
"Whatever, I wouldn't go that far." She smiled.
"Come on! You've seen me naked! You have to admit that I have a pretty rockin' body." I flexed my right arm, exposing my muscles.
    She fake yawned. "Not impressed."
"Well I'm just going to have to show you then." I cradled her in my arms and she laughed. I smiled, carrying her up the stairs and into her bedroom.
Remembering Kaci had caused something to happen inside me. I had finally began to let her go. Kaci was in the past, and Amy was my future.

    Chapter eight part one
    *Jessie's point of view*
I stared at Shannon as she approached me, her arms spread wide. Shannon. What was she doing here? All memories of Kaci flooded my mind. Shannon was Kaci, my dead ex-girlfriends, younger sister.
"Jessie!" She called. She wrapped her arms around me with joy. Hugging her reminded me of the day after Kaci had died. We sat in Shannon's room, crying with sorrow and holding each other with compassion. Sadness overcame me. "I haven't seen you since you moved!"
Since I moved. The memory of that day invaded my mind. I remembered it so clearly, as if it was yesterday.
"Jessie, I have to tell you something." Shannon said, lingering on her front porch. She was all of thirteen and I only fifteen.
"What is it?" I asked, squinting against the fluorescent sun. I was standing in the driveway next to my car. I had just finished stuffing the last of the boxes into the back. Jason and Tommy were waiting for me in the moving van. They didn't appear to be listening.
Shannon looked down at her bare feet, deciding on what to say next. "It's about Kaci." She mumbled. My eyes began to water. It had only been a month since Kaci's death. Every time someone said her name I wanted to break down into tears.
"Yeah, what about her?" I asked.
"Well, before she died, she didn't know if.. the baby was yours or....Jasons." My heart stopped. Mine or....Jasons? How could he do this to me! Kaci was my girlfriend, and I loved her. How could he fool around with her?
Shannon snapped me back into reality as she said my name once more. "Jessie? Are you okay?"
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine. It's great to see you." I smiled and hugged her again. I glanced over Shannon's shoulder at Amy. She wore a look of jealousy. I couldn't help but smile. I loved her so much.
"I haven't seen you in forever!" Shannon beamed.
"Yeah, its been what? Three years?" I replied.
    "Yeah, it has."
"So, you're moving in next door?" I asked.
"Yeah. It's great, isn't it? Now we can live next door to each other like old times!"
"Oh, I don't live here. Amy does. Shannon, this is Amy, my fiancé." Shannon looked at me in disbelief.
    "Fiancé?" She repeated.
"Yep. We got engaged last month." I bragged with a huge smile. Amy made me so happy. I glanced over at Amy and noticed she was smiling.
"But, what about....Kaci?" She whispered. My smile vanished.
"Shannon, it's been three years." I replied.
    "But you loved her."
"Yeah, I did and I always will. But I love Amy, too. She makes me happy. And we're having a baby together. I'm happier than I've ever been." She looked disappointed. Her shoulders slumped and I saw a twinkle of tears in her eyes.
"Oh. Well I better get going. Still have to unpack." She turned and began to head back to her house.
"Wait." Amy called after her. "Do you want to come in?"
Shannon turned around. "You're inviting me in?"
"Yeah. It looks like Jessie and you used to be friends. I would love to get to know you and hear about old times." Shannon half smiled.
"Okay." We all headed up the small, brick path to the front door. Amy pulled a silver key out of her pocket and unlocked the door. We all piled in.

    Chapter nineteen part two
"When I lived in Reno, I had a girlfriend. Kaci Gray. She was perfect." A slight smile lit up his face. "We were madly in love. She was my everything." I pouted and crossed my arms. I didn't like where this was going at all. Jessie smiled a little at my childish ways. Then his smile vanished. "I got her pregnant." He said, turning his gaze back to the window. "We were both fifteen. I had vowed I would stay with her, and help raise our baby. Her parents didn't like me, but hey agreed to let me help." He paused for a moment, tears filling his eyes. "A few days later she was in a car accident. She died on the scene." I stood there, all sign of jealousy gone. "Jessie, I'm so sorry." I said, going to stand next to him. "Amy, I need you to know something." He replied, turning to look at me. I nodded for him to continue. "I loved Kaci with everything I had. I thought she was the one girl I was going to be with forever. But that was before I met you. She was mine then, but your mine now. Even if she was still alive and we had a baby together, you're the one I love. I didn't know what love was back then. I was too young to know. But I know what it is now. I love you more than anything in this messed up world. " As he spoke, his eyes went back to its bright blue and filed with tears. "Amy, I stand here right now, and give you my heart." The tears that were harboring in his eyes slid down his cheeks. I threw my arms around him as I began to cry. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me tight against him. "Jessie, I want you to have my heart too." I mumbled through my tears. He pulled back and looked at me. Slowly, he bent down and kissed me with so much passion, my knees grew weak. Without stopping the kiss, he bent down and picked me up, cradling me in his arms. He walked me over to the bed and sat me down. He gently laid on top of me, pulling off his pants. I took off mine as well, letting him slowly slide inside me. He kissed me everywhere, filling me with love and passion. As we made love, he whispered sweet things in my ear. He reminded me of the love he held for me and how he would never leave my side. After an hour of filling myself with Jessie, there was a knock on the door. "Amy? We need to talk." Tommy's voice said from the other side of the door. I jumped up, remembering where I was. "Hang on!" I replied, struggling to put on my bra. Jessie stifled a laugh as he clasped the back. "Thanks." I mumbled, pulling on my shorts and throwing on my shirt. Jessie put on his pants. He called for Tommy to come in, his shirt still laying on the floor beside my desk. Tommy opened the door and took a look in the scene in front of him. "Oh, uh, sorry." He said, looking at me as I struggled to button my shorts. I looked down at the floor, turning red. "No problem. We were just finishing up." Jessie replied. I looked over at him. A smile played around on his lips, threatening to be exposed. "I can see that." Tommy mumbled, a hint of jealousy lingering in his eyes. "So, what did you need to talk about?" I asked, gladly changing the subject. "Oh, yeah. Well, uh, Tony just called. He said he's got Johnny and he's taking him in right now." I smiled and ran over to Tommy. With happiness, I threw my arms around him. "Thank you so much, Tommy!" I said. With slight hesitation, he put his arms around me. "It's all part of my job, ma'am." He replied. I pulled back and ran over to Jessie, flinging my arms around him much like I had Tommy. "He's going to be locked up." I told him, even though he had heard the whole conversation between Tommy and me. "He cant hurt me anymore." Jessie tightened his arms around me. "I know babe, I know." I pulled away from him and kissed his soft lips. "Well, I have to get back to the station and help book him in." "Bye Tommy, and thanks again for all of your help." I replied. He smiled. "See you around, Jessie." He said, pulling his eyes from mine. Jessie didn't reply, but he nodded. "I hope I'll see you again." I said to Tommy as he began to walk away. He looked at Jessie then back at me. "Maybe." He replied before leaving the room. I looked at Jessie, waiting for him to give me an answer to Tommy's reluctant answer. I mean, he was his brother, and I was Jessie's girlfriend. Didn't that mean I would be seeing a lot of him? "Come on babe, we need to get down stairs. If you have my heart, don't you think your parents need to get to know me?" He flashed me his perfect, gorgeous smile and I couldn't help but smile back. I took his hand and we descended down the stairs. Jessie was more than words could describe. I loved him, and he loved me. But soon, that love would have to be shared.

"Tommy?" I heard a familiar voice ask.
"Jessie?" Tommy replied. I jumped to my feet in joy, sprinting for the door.
"Jessie!" I shouted, throwing myself in his arms. I buried my face in his collar bone, breathing in his familiar delicious scent.
"Amy." He replied. I could here the smile in his voice.
    "I'm so glad you're here." I said.
"Me too." He kissed me on the top of my head. I pulled away and wrapped my arm around his waist.
"Well come inside." I said, tugging him in the direction of the living room.
"Wait." I heard Tommy's voice say as he shut the front door. Jessie and I stopped, turning around.
"It's fine, Tommy. This is Jessie, my boyfriend." I looked up at Jessie's eyes, my smiling growing.
"Yeah, and that's the problem." I pulled my gaze from Jessie to look at Tommy. "What are you doing here, Jessie?"
"I'm visiting my girlfriend." He replied, his words iced.
    "Does she know-"
"Can we not talk about this here." Jessie's cold words interrupted him.
"Talk about what?" I asked, looking from Tommy to Jessie.
"Nothing babe, don't worry about it." Jessie bent down and kissed me lightly on the lips.
"Well, I think I have a right to know." My mom said, slightly stepping forward.
"Nothing to worry about, ma'am." Tommy reassured her. "It's not that important."
"But I'm her mother! I should know what her boyfriends are up to!"
"Guess you didn't know much about Johnny, huh?" Jessie said, staring her straight in the eyes.
"Don't you ever talk to me like that young man!" My mom shouted.
"Don't be so quick to judge, ma'am." Jessie replied, mocking Tommy's politeness.
"Amy! are you going to let him talk to me like that?" She looked at me with sharp, innocent eyes.
"It's not like he's lying." I replied. "You are assuming Jessie is trouble, yet you played Johnny off to be a saint. You're not so good at predicting." She puffed up, growing angrier and angrier with every breath.
"Jessie, Amy, come into the living room with me. I don't want a fight." Tommy said, stepping in before mom could start to really yell. Jessie and I followed Tommy into the living room without even a glance in mom's direction.
"So, about the previous topic..." Tommy began.
"This is not the time nor place." Jessie spat, interrupting him.
"She needs to know, Jessie. She's your girlfriend!"
"Hold the press." I said, throwing my hands in the air. "How do you know each other first of all?"
"He's um...my brother." Jessie replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Brother!" I said in shock, my voice growing louder. "I didn't know you had a brother."
"Well, you never asked." He replied. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Jessie Gantro, don't get all cocky with me." He smiled and kissed me.
    "Sorry babe."
"Next question. What are you not telling me?" His eyes went from a mocking smile to anger in a second.
"It's not important." He replied swiftly.
"Yes it is and you know it." Tommy said. Jessie shot him a warning glance.
"Shut up. Why do you care anyway?" Tommy looked at me for a moment, then back at Jessie.
"I'm just looking out for Amy."
"I can do that myself!" Jessie shouted. He grabbed my hand. "Come on." He said, pulling me towards the stairs.
What was with Jessie? I had never seen him this angry. What was he hiding from me and why wouldn't he tell me? Was it that bad? Couldn't he tell me?
My questions went unanswered as we headed up the stairs in search for my room.

    Chapter sixteen part one
Being addicted to Crystal Meth was a feeling I had never experienced before. I felt great when I was high. But when I was crashing, it wasnt the best feeling. My hands shook from withdraws, my body ached. All I wanted to do was sleep for hours upon hours. Even spending the entire day in Jessie's arms couldnt cure the the feelings of crashing.
"are you cold?" Jessie asked as my body shook in his arms. "Here, put your clothes on." He reached over me to grab my shirt and shorts.
"I-Im not cold." I objected. "I'm just crashing." We were laying on the beach in each others arms. Jessie had been talking softly to me, his delicious words filling my mind.
"Babe, I dont have any more Crystal in my car. We should probably get you home." He pulled his arms away.
"'Kay." I didnt argue. I felt horrible even though this day on the beach with Jessie had been magical. It was time for me to crash, and I needed it. I hadnt slept in three days, and was beginning to feel it.
I slipped on my shorts slowly, yawning as I did. Jessie laughed as I struggled with my shirt, to tired to really care if it was on backwards or not.
"Here." Jessie's cold hands slid the shirt over my head and he smiled. "Your so cute when your tired." He kissed me gently on the lips and then began to put on his shirt.
I bent down and picked up my silver gladiators and the blue blanket. Slowly, I began to walk towards Jessie's car. He followed close behind.
I threw my shoes and the blanket in the back as I sat down in the passenger seat. I buckled my seatbelt and laid my head against the cold window.
Jessie slid in the drivers seat, starting the car and heading off. He glanced at me and grabbed my hand.
"I know it feels bad." He said, his eyes intent on the road. "But you will get used to it. Its just a small price to pay for feeling so good."
"Yeah. I just feel bad that we had to leave so soon." I replied with a yawn.
"Ah, its okay. Ill see you tomorrow anyway." He looked at me and smiled. "I can even pick you up if you want."
I lifted my head up. "Yes!" I replied a little too enthusiastically. I winced when my excitement made my head hurt.
"Just try not to move your head too fast. It helps." I rested my head back against the window. For the rest of the ride home we were silent.
I was glad that I had Jessie now. I was glad that he was here with me. When I was with Jessie, I felt safe. But for some reason, I had a nagging feeling that that was about to change.
"We're here babe." Jessie's sweet voice invaded my thoughts. I lifted up my head as he pulled into the driveway. Ryan's car wasnt there and neither was mom's. Good, then I wouldnt have to explain Jessie to them.
He parked the car and I began to unbuckle my seatbelt. Jessie turned around and grabbed my shoes out of the back seat and we both got out of the car.
Jessie put his arm around my waist as I tiredly walked up the path to the front door.
"Thanks." I mumbled, taking the spare key from under the mat and unlocking the door.
"Any time." He kissed me gently. He put his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. There we stood, making out on my front porch. I wonder what the neighbors thought.
I pulled away, breathless. "I would invite you in, but I'm too tired to party right now." I shot him a flirtatious smile.
"But I do all the work anyway." He smiled back, kissing me again.
"Mmm, I'd love to put you to work. But really, I need to sleep."
"I know. Well, I'll see you tomorrow." He kissed me once again before retreating to his car. I turned to open the door.
"Amy," He called. I turned back around. "I love you." My heart squeezed as he said those three little words.
With a huge smile, I replied, "I love you too, Jessie." And then he got in his car and drove off.
Still smiling, I opened the door and walked inside. I dropped my shoes at the bottom of the staircase and headed into the kitchen. Missing lunch and making love to Jessie really worked me up an appetite.
I was rummaging through the fridge, looking for something decent to snack on, when there was a knock on the door. I smiled and shut the fridge door.
"Jessie, I told you, I'm too tired to play anymore." I called as I headed for the front door. I opened the door and my smile vanished.

    Chapter fifteen part two
"The beach." He replied, keeping his eyes on the road.
I hesitated for a moment. The last time I had been to the beach was the day Johnny broke up with me. Was that what Jessie was about to do?
"No." I replied stubbornly. He turned his gaze on me.
"Why not?" He asked. "I thought you would like spending a day with me at the beach."
"The last time I was there was when Johnny broke up with me. I'm not gonna let you break up with me there, too. If you're going to do it, do it now."
He looked back at the road, not answering. Crap! He really was gonna break up with me! What was I going to do? I was crazy about him. I couldnt deal with anymore heartache.
"Amy," He finally spoke, "I cant believe you would think that!" I looked at him, puzzled.
"So you're not breaking up with me?"
"Hell no! What would make you think such a thing?"
I paused for a moment. What had made me think that? Was it just the events at the beach that caused my immediate assumption?
"Sorry. I guess it was just that Johnny broke up with me there, so it kind of made me jump to conclusions." He looked at me and sighed, grabbing my hand.
"Well dont." He replied. "I just wanted to have a great day at the beach with you." I managed a smile.
"Sounds like fun." He smiled back. We continued the short drive to the beach in silence. I looked out the window, taking in the summer setting. Jessie made me feel safe when I was with him. Everything about him seemed warm and inviting.
"Here we are." Jessie's sweet and delicious voice invaded my thoughts. I pried my eyes from the window and looked out at the beach.
I had never really noticed before how spectacular the ocean was until now.
"are you going to sit there all day?" Jessie asked. I turned to look at him. He was standing outside the car, waiting for me to get out. I smiled and unbuckled my seatbelt, stepping out of the car.
Jessie opened up the backseat door and rummaged around. He finally shut the door, holding a soft blue blanket in his hands.
"Is everything you own blue?" I asked, remembering what his room had looked like.
"Not all, but most." He replied, taking my hand. We walked down the beach, growing closer to the water. We stopped a few feet from where the water came up and Jessie laid down the blanket.
Carefully, I bent down and sat on the blanket. Jessie laid down next to me, sprawling out. He tucked his hands behind his head and stared up at the sky.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked as several silent minutes passed.
He turned his head to where he was facing me. "You." He replied simply.
"Really?" I said, a growing smile on my face. "What about me?" He grabbed my waist and pulled me down next to him. I rested my head on his chest, breathing in his sweet scent.
"About how much I love you." He replied quietly. I looked up at him, unable to speak.
"Jessie...I love you too." I whispered. He looked down at me and smiled. He kissed me softly on the lips, his passion showing through.
I moved to where I was pressing my body against him, feeling his every move. He moaned quietly, moving his hands down my body. I pulled away, breathless, tugging at my shirt. Jessie joined in, gracefully ripping the shirt from my body. He tore off his shirt in a flash, returning his lips to mine.
With a quick movement, he rolled me over to where he was on top of me. In one flowing motion, he had both of our pants off, rubbing against me. I moaned in pleasure as he moved inside me, exciting all parts of my body.
Making love to Jessie was always something I enjoyed. But this time, it was different. This time, it was filled with way more passion. I guess this is what it felt like to make love to someone you loved. Yes, I did love Jessie. The love I felt for him felt right. It felt more right than anything in this cruel, messed up world.

    Chapter fifteen part one
"Come on," I said to Jessie, grabbing his hand. "We better get to class." He paused for a moment and looked at me.
"Lets ditch." He replied, snaking his arm around my waist. I thought it over for a minute. I looked up into his warm and soft eyes.
"Okay." I gave in. "Let me get my stuff."
"'Kay." He bent down and kissed me. "I'll be waiting in the car." He gave me a warm smile before retreating to his red Honda. I sighed and headed for the main entrance.
I wasnt worried about Johnny telling people about Jessie and me. I was crazy about Jessie, and I didnt care if the whole world knew about it.
I quickly walked to my locker, not wanting to get stopped by any wondering teachers. I swiftly opened my locker and grabbed my bag. I glanced at myself in my locker mirror before slamming it shut.
"What are you doing?" I heard Mandy's voice behind me. I swifly turned around to face her.
    "Nothing." I replied simply.
"Then lets go to class." I didnt move as she began to walk down the hall. She stopped and looked at me.
    "Come on." She said.
"Mandy, I'm not going to class." I admitted.
"Wait, your ditching?" She had begun walking back to where I was standing.
    "Yeah."
"Amy, if you get caught you could get kicked off the cheer team!" That made me think. I hadnt really thought about the consequences. I looked out the glass doors. I saw Jessie's red Honda parked not that far away.
"I know." I replied, turning to look at her. "That's why you're not gonna tell anyone."
"But Amy, you could get in a lot of trouble. How are you leaving anyway? You dont have a car." I sighed. She was gonna find out sooner or later, and it was best if she heard it from me.
"I'm going with Jessie." I said quietly. She didnt speak for a long time. Instead, she stared at me, gathering her thoughts.
"What do you mean your going with Jessie?" Mandy finally asked.
"I mean I am leaving with him. I'm getting in his car and leaving with him." I replied, expressionless.
"But Amy, hes a...a...freak! You cant be seen with him!" That sent me over the edge. I was tired of people telling me who I could hang out with and what I could do.
"Hes not a freak, Mandy!" I shouted, slicing her with my words. "I'm crazy about Jessie and I dont give a damn what you think!" She backed up a little as I spat the harsh words at her. "Now leave me the hell alone." I gave her a hard look before stomping off.
Mandy didnt follow as I ran through the parking lot for Jessie's car.
"Ready?" He asked as I hurried in the car.
"Yeah." I replied, throwing my bag in the backseat.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He wiped the falling tears from my cheeks.
"Everything." I replied, throwing myself in his arms. He caressed my face, telling me it was going to be okay.
    "What happened exactly?" He asked.
I sniffed and ran the back of my hand over my eyes. "I yelled at Mandy. She just made me so mad."
"And why did she make you made?" He pressed.
"She told me I couldnt be with you. That it wasnt good for me to be seen with you, just like Johnny had." I lifted my head from his chest, looking up at him. His face was composed, showing no sign of anger.
"Well she;s wrong." He finally answered. He looked down at me and smiled warmly. "Nothing is going to keep me away from you. Nothing." His words made my heart squeeze.
I gently raised my head and kissed him lightly on the lips. He kissed me back, pressing me against him.
"Um, as much as I would love to do this here," He said, untangling my hands from around his neck, "we need to get out of here." I blushed and sat back down.
    "Sorry." I mumbled.
"Dont be." He bent down and kissed me once more before staring the car and taking off.
"Um, where are we going?" I asked Jessie as we headed down the black-top road.

    Chapter fourteen
"Where were you at lunch?" Mandy whispered as Mrs. Brink began her lecture on meiosis and mitosis.
"I, uh, wasnt hungry. So I, uh, went to study hall and did my homework." I lied. We were in our seventh period biology class. Mandy sat next to me at one of the lab tables.
"Well you could have told me. I would have ate in there with you."
"I wanted to be alone." She nodded and pretended to be paying attention to Mrs. Brink.
I opened my notebook and began to draw absent-mindedly on the first page, unable to pay attention to Mrs. Brink's boring lecture on something we learned in 8th grade.
"Jessie?" Mandy's voice whispered in my ear.
"Huh?" I asked, startled at why she said his name. She pointed to my notebook and I looked down. I had been drawing his name all over the paper in big, bold letters with tons of hearts around it.
I quickly closed my notebook, looking back at her.
"Why were you drawing Jessie's name?" She asked. When I didnt reply, she continued. "Amy, I told you to stay away from him! Hes a freak!"
"Hes not a freak!" I objected, feeling offended by her words.
"Ha, oh please! He does drugs, that screams freak to me."
Before I knew it, the sentence shot out of my mouth and I replied by saying, "What if I did drugs too?" Mandy stared at me, her eyes wide.
"are you saying that you..." She trailed off.
"No!" I answered quickly. "I mean no, of course not." She sighed a bit of relief.
"Whew, good. But really Amy, you shouldnt hang out with him."
"I dont." I lied once more. "I was writing about, um, that Jessie guy off of that one episode of Hannah Montana. Yeah, him. Hes dreamy." I wasnt completely lying. I mean he was totally hot. But I had been writing about my Jessie.
"If you say so." She narrowed her eyes at me, but turned to look at Mrs. Brink. I sighed, thankful she hadnt completely thought I lied.
I shoved my notebook back in my binder and tried to pay attention to Mrs. Brink. The period seemed to crawl by, taking forever to end. But when It finally did, I washed washed in relief.
One more period left before I would be able to spend some good, quality time with Jessie. And I had more than a walk in the park in mind.
I walked to my locker to pick up my health book, a smile plastered on my face. Once I reached my locker, someone tapped me on the shoulder. I spun around, expecting to see Mandy standing there, waiting for me. But it wasnt.
"Johnny?" I said, shocked. He didnt reply. Swiftly, he bent down and kissed me passionately on the lips. I pushed him away, puzzled by his actions.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Amy, I want you back." He said, going in for another kiss. I pushed him back once more.
"Johnny, no. You broke up with me, remember? Two days ago!"
"Yeah and I realize I made a huge mistake. I love you Amy." He kissed me again and I struggled against his hands around my waist. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of Jessie, standing two feet away. Anger and hurt flashed across his face before he bolted out the front doors.
"Jessie!" I shouted, breaking away from Johnny and running after him. I ran out the doors, searching for him. I saw him, sitting on the low, metal bench right outside the doors.
"Amy, go away!" He said as I walked over to him.
"No, Jessie, that was nothing." I replied. He looked up at me. His eyes startled me, much as they had the first time we talked. They were back to being cold and dark. The sadness in them had returned. He looked aged, older and more wise than he had at lunch.
"It didnt look like nothing." He spat. He stood up and briskly began to walk away.
"Wait." I said, grabbing his arm. He turned around.
"Dont, Amy. Dont try to feed my lies and bullshit. I dont want to hear it."
"Jessie, I'm not lying! I swear, that was nothing. Johnny kissed me!" As if he had heard me call his name, Johnny came bolting out the doors.
"Amy, there you are." He said.
"Oh look, your knight in shining armor." Jessie mumbled, turning to walk away.
"Jessie, dont. Dont leave!" He paused, but didnt turn around.
"Come on babe, lets leave this freak." Johnny said, grabbing my waist. His words unleashed anger inside me.
"Hes not a freak, Johnny!" I shouted. "Jessie is amazing and wonderful. His eyes remind me of a bright summer sky. His voice, soft and delicious, is like a poet, whispering beautiful words in my ear. His touch, exciting, I long for." I looked over my shoulder as I spoke, gazing at Jessie as he observed me.
"Amy, you cant actually like him." Johnny's voice was filled with discussed as he spoke the words. I looked at Johnny for a brief second.
"I dont just like him, Johnny. Its way more than that." I spun around and look at Jessie, his arm out-stretched towards me. I smiled and ran to him, letting him wrap his arms around me.
"I dont care." I whispered, breathing in his appealing smell. "I dont care who knows about us. I'm crazy about you." I looked up at him, smiling.
"Ha, your right. you are crazy." My smile faded. He stroked my hair. "I'm crazy about you too, Amy. Even though we met four days ago, I am absolutely crazy about you." My smile returned. Jessie leaned down and kissed me softly on the lips.
"Oh, wait until everyone hears about this." Johnny said. I pulled away from Jessie and turned to look at him.
"Tell them. I dont care. Being popular is not worth giving up on someone who your crazy about." I replied. Johnny was at a loss for words, unable to respond. Obviously, he had assumed I would come running back to him, thinking popularity was more important than Jessie. He was way wrong.
"You know what, you played me!" He replied.
"Oh, I played you? Ha! I wasnt the one sleeping around and keeping secrets. Nothing happened between Jessie and I until after you broke up with me."
He opened his mouth as if to say something more, but then closed it, deciding not to. He gave Jessie and me a stern look before returning inside.
    I turned back to Jessie.
"Your really going to give up your social status for some fun times with me?" He asked, a smile planted on his face.
"Of course I am." I replied, raping my arms around his neck. He bent down and kissed me once more.
Jessie was way more than just a boyfriend at this point. He was a friend, someone I could talk to, and also the only person I could have a play-date with the Monster with. At that moment, I had no idea what would unfold for us in the future. And trust me, they werent all good.

    Chapter thirteen part 2
"Ms. Sheller? Ms. Sheller?" I heard Mr. Ganty's voice calling my name. I couldnt respond. I was afraid if I opened my mouth, I would begin to shout. I would shout at everyone, not able to control this growing anger inside me.
I was in my fourth period English class, right before the bell rang to go to lunch. I had survived half of the day without the Monster, but now it was growing on me. The need for the Monster was much to strong to overcome. I needed it, now.
"Oh, yes Mr. Ganty?" I replied, composing myself.
"Do you know the answer to the question?" He asked, not please by my spacing out.
"Um," I hesitated. I looked to my left and noticed Johnny staring at me from across the room.
"Juliet." Toby Smith whispered from behind me.
    "Juliet?" I repeated.
"Very good Ms. Sheller. Romeo's lover was Juliet." I turned around to Toby.
    "Thanks." I whispered.
"Dont mention it." He replied. Right then, the bell signaled it was time for lunch. I jumped up and retrieved my books. Half running, I sprinted out of the room. My locker wasnt to far from Mr. Ganty's room, and for that I was glad. I stuffed my books in my locker and frantically looked around. I need to talk to Jessie, now.
"Looking for someone?" A familiar voice said from behind me. I spun around and threw myself in Jessie's arms.
"Oh Jessie, I was just looking for you. You have to help me." He quickly untangled my arms from around his neck and stepped back.
"Amy, you cant do that, remember?" He said, a smile on his face.
    "Oops, sorry." I replied.
"Dont be. What do you need my help with?" I looked him firmly in the eyes and lowered my voice.
"I need it Jessie, the Crystal. My hands are shaking, I cant concentrate. There are voices inside my head screaming for me to take a puff."
He looked at me, concerned. "I know what that feels like. Come on, its lunch time. Lets get in my car and go somewhere where we can take a puff." His words were relief to me.
"Okay." I said, following him as he walked down the hall and out the main doors.
"Ive missed you." He said, putting his arm around my waist. His touch made me tingle.
"Ive missed you too." I replied, looking up at him with a smile.
We stopped at his car and I climbed in. He swiftly started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
"Where are we going?" I asked as he took a hold of my hand.
"Somewhere where no one will find us." He replied, keeping his eyes on the road. We drove down the street, trees passing swiftly on either side of me. I looked over at Jessie. His features were flawless. His straight black hair no longer covered his face, but showed how bright and wonderful his eyes were. His lips were full and wonderful, matching the curve of mine perfectly.
"Here we are." He said, turning off the car. We were parked in the woods about a mile or two away from the school. Trees surrounded us, making it hard for anyone to find us.
"Great." I replied. He leaned over me and opened the glove box. He pulled out a small plastic bag filled with Crystal and a pipe.
As he had before, he placed one Crystal carefully into the pipe, taking a lighter from his pocket and running it across the bottom.
Smoke filled the car, wiping the voices completely away. Jessie took a puff and then handed it to me. My shaking hands steadied, letting me breathe in the comfort of the Crystal. Jessie and I handed it back and fourth, growing higher and higher.
"Thanks." I told Jessie as he returned the plastic baggy to the safety of the glove box.
"No problem. I love getting high with you." He replied with a smile. His smile made my whole body warm. I leaned over and kissed him lightly on the lips.
"I take that back." He said, his lips lingering on mine. "I love doing this." He kissed me again, his hands searching my body. I let the kiss grow deeper, taking off his shirt.
Jessie moaned and swiftly ripped off my clothes. I moved to the backseat, him following behind. I layed down as he climbed on top of me, rubbing his body against mine.
Being with Jessie made my body and mind go crazy. I needed him, every second of the day. I wanted and needed him to touch me. I longed for him to kiss me. Being with him made this cruelly reality to go perfect.

    Chapter thirteen part 1
"Ugh." I groaned. I rolled over and hit snooze on my alarm clock. Reluctantly, I kicked the covers off and stood up. I let out a yawn and then headed to the bathroom.
Quickly, I glanced at myself in the mirror and then turned on the water. I began to brush my teeth.
Monday, the most hated day by all people had arrived. I was not looking forward to today. I had to face Johnny, and that was definitely not something I wanted to do. It was also going to be the first time I would have to spend a long time without the Monster.
The Monster was a huge part of my life now. Granted, I had only been hooked for three days, but it had already taken over my life. When I woke up in the morning, I took a puff. Before lunch, three more. By the time nightfall rolled around, I would be up to ten. All day I would be high, and nobody knew the difference.
I turned off the water and headed back to my room. Before getting dressed, I pushed the desk away from my wall. I reached in the narrow hole and retrieved the shoe box. I quickly pulled it out and sat on my bed.
Carefully, I dropped one tiny Crystal into the pipe and ran the lighter over the bottom. Instantly, smoke surrounded me. I breathed it in, closing my eyes. I sat there, growing higher and higher with every passing second.
By the time I returned the box to its home in the wall, I was way up. My mood was mellow, yet exciting. I felt more sure about facing Johnny than I had before.
I walked over to my closet and grabbed a white, low v-neck t-shirt and some shorts and begun to get dressed.
Once my clothes were on, I went over to my make-up desk and put on some eyeliner and tried to fix my hair. Once I decided I looked decent, I headed downstairs.
"Finally." Ryan said as I descended down the staircase. "Mandy has been waiting for you for almost fifteen minutes." I peeked into the living room. Mandy was sitting on the couch, texting away on her pretty pink cell phone.
"Well why didnt she come up stairs?" I asked. The truth was, I was very happy that she hadnt come up stairs. Who knows, she could have walked in right when I was having fun with the Monster. That would not have been good.
"I told her that you would be ready in a second and to just wait down here." He replied. Mandy stood up and walked over to where Ryan and I were standing.
"Finally!" She said. "I have been waiting forever! You look great. Come on, we better go. Dont want to be late." She gave Ryan a smile and then headed for the door. I quickly grabbed my bag, slid on my silver gladiators that were resting by the stairs, and headed out the door.
"So, what were you planning on doing about Johnny?" She asked as we both got in her car.
"I dont know." I replied honestly.
"Well you better think of something. You have most of your classes with him." I thought for a moment as we headed down the black top road in seek for our school. Mandy was right, I needed a plan. But I had no idea where to begin.
"I just wont talk to him." I decided.
"Ha, like that will work." She glanced at me.
I sighed. "Well, its all I have. Maybe not talking to him will give me some brilliant idea." I said hopefully.
"Maybe." Mandy turned into the parking lot of the school, parking next to a green bug. I reluctantly got out and faced my fate.
"Dont worry, everything will be fine." Mandy swung one arm over my shoulder as we headed for the main entrance.
I came to a halt as I spotted Johnny. He was making his way across the parking lot, one arm firmly around Christi's waist. They were together.
"I cant believe him!" I said in anger.
"Didnt you say that's why he broke up with you, to get with her?" Mandy asked, puzzled by my sudden anger.
"Yeah, but I was hoping I was wrong. How could he move on so fast?" I stopped, realizing I had done the same thing. I had just slept with Jessie not a day after he broke up with me. I had fallen for him, merely two hours after the whole incident. I was in no place to judge.
"Look, Amy I know you loved Johnny, but you need to move on." Mandy's voice scattered my thoughts.
"Yeah, your right." I said, not taking my eyes off of Johnny. "I should move on." We continued our stride, walking towards the huge glass doors that would open up into a sea of teenagers and their drama.
As I opened the door, I caught a glimpse of Jessie. He was walking into the doors to my right. He saw me and his lips curled up into his gorgeous smile. I smiled back, wanting so much to run into his arms and breath in his delicious scent, to hear his soft, mouth watering voice in my ear, whispering to me.
"Amy, come on." Mandy tugged on my arm. I broke my gaze from Jessie and walked into the school building. Slowly, we headed towards my locker.
