-The Reasons Why-
Chapter One
Nicole pulled into my drive way and honked her horn. I grabbed my Nike duffle bag, slipped on my moccasins, and ran out the door. She honked again. I threw my bag in the backseat then got in the car. "I like your hair" Nicole says sheepishly.
"Thanks, It's my natural color now." I replied. My hair was down to the middle of my hourglass, with soft waves that shined bright in the sun. "This is just embarrassing." I said in a whiney voice.
"What's embarrassing?" Nicole said, tossing her long auburn hair over her shoulder.
"You're driving me to school." She stared at me, "I don't have my license!" I exclaimed.
"Well that's your fault." She said, looking back at the road. I gave her one of my classic, "are you f***ing kidding me" glares. "How the hell," I took a dramatic pause, "Is it my fault that I'm a Capricorn? Not everyone has the gift of being a Leo."
Nicole smiled at my compliment, then turned on the radio. Natasha Benningfield came blaring out the speakers. Nicole starting singing "I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine." and waving her arms around in a circular motion. The car started to go into the other lane. I grabbed the wheel and pulled it in the right lane. "What the hell are you doing?" I said laughing.
She put her hands back on the wheel and started laughing too. I turned down the radio. We finally pulled into the parking lot of the school and parked in the Sophomore section, farthest from the school. We got out of the car and walked into the school together. It was the first day of school; we passed by lost freshman and laughed as we thought back to last year. Unlike them, we didn't have to go in the gym. We just got our combinations from the office and were free to do whatever after that.
On our way to the sophomore hallway, Nicole passed her senior boyfriend, Ian. He grabs her hand as she's walking away and pulls her next to him. "Where do you think you’re going, baby." She giggles like a school girl and I pick up my pace. Relationships disgust me.
When I make it to the sophomore hallway, I pass him. He walks passed my with confidence and smiles. I melted a little bit inside. He turns around "Lucy?"
I blush, "You seem star struck." I said in a questioning voice.
"I'm sorry, Luce. You’re just so beautiful." He gave me a coy smile, "I've really missed you."
"I missed you too, but I got to go get my combination. Talk to you later." I lied. I already had my combination.
"Alright. Well, bye." He winked and walked away. He is my ex-boyfriend. We were together for four solid months and I was in love. Towards the end we started fighting more and more often until he finally broke my heart, a week before freshman year. His name is Brock. He has gorgeous eyes, a kind smile, and a smoking hot body. And I'm head over heels in love with him.
I open my locker and put in my bag. After setting up all my supplies, I stood back and looked at how organized it was. I smiled at my work. Crash. My top self falls and all my stuff spreads across the hallway. My best friend, Johnie, just-so-happened to be walking past when this happened. I stood there in shock. Johnie started to giggle, "Lucy, do you need some help." I nodded my head. He picked up most of my things and put them at the bottom of my locker. "I'm going to go to the office and tell them your locker needs repairs."
I hugged him, "What would I do without you, Johnie?"
He smiled and disappeared into the crowd of sophomores. I have a feeling this is going to be a good year.
