the remaining lights dull to gray
my eyes are useless alone
from the east, i hear the deep rumble of thunder
seconds later, i see the flash of lightning
here comes the rain
it pours down onto the pavement
breaking into millions of particles upon contact
the storm is terrifying
i hide under the covers
calm and quiet here
i still hear the rain against my window
and the thunder crash about the earth
but now it is calm and quiet
as i fall asleep
knowing that by the time i wake
the storm will have passed
as always
