The USA isn't supposed to be a predominantly Christian country. It's quite contradictory and does infringe on people who follow different or no religion's rights.
Should anyone who doesn't believe in God just pack their things and leave the country? No.
But apparently you think so.

I'm not even Christian but I still want to say the under god part because that's how I was raised to say it, and that's just how it is. Like, you cant just change the pledge, it doesn't work that way.

Really because in 1954 President Eisenhower changed the Pledge by adding the words "under God" to it in order to differentiate the United States from Soviet Russia which, as I'm sure you know, was communist and communism and atheism were HEAVILY associated with each other despite the two not being related. The United States federal government was never founded on the Christian religion - on any religion, actually - and ought remain secular based on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ..." Not everyone believes in the same god, or any god at all actually. It's not just an exclusive statement to the irreligious, but to anyone who doesn't worship the Judeo-Christian deity. The Pledge of Allegiance ought to return to its original form, or the most recently updated form prior to 1954. Because it was changed several times. Because it does work that way.

alright im just saying that that's how it always was in scool when we said it and it would just be weird if it was changed. but I get that not everyone believes in the same god or whatever im not even religious so I don't know why im even defending this. If you don't want to say it, then don't when that part is said by everyone else who wants to say it. I think it should be a choice if you want to say it or not.

You can still have that choice if the Pledge is returned to its version prior to 1954. The only difference is that when it's secular, it doesn't favour one religion over another and exclude those who don't believe in the Judeo-Christian god. So everyone wins instead of just those of the famous monotheistic religions. It's called fairness.

Under god was added in 1954 so the USA could separate themselves from the Soviets/Communism. It was relevant at that time but I'm not sure we should still keep it there only because we do not have to separate ourselves from the Soviets because, well, they do not exist anymore.

I shouldn't have to believe in your god to live here. Stop being so ignorant, you can't tell people to "leave the USA" because of their beliefs. Church and state are meant to be separate and the phrase was not even originally in the pledge of allegiance. If people who don't believe in the same god should leave then you might as well get rid of the whole "liberty and justice for all" section.

Wow. I didn't know that having a personal opinion that you didn't agree with made me ignorant. Sorry. I'll try not to form my own beliefs if that'll make you less bitter.

a personal opinion? By thinking that people who don't believe in your god should leave? I'm sorry but this sounds kind of familiar.... hmm maybe like that one guy... oh yea, , who got rid of the people of one religious and ethnic background he didn't like? For f/cks sake.

She never said that atheists should leave, she said that if you can't just grow up and deal with what the pledge of allegiance says and just not say the "under god" part, then you should just leave. It's not that hard to just not say it, instead people are trying to change it. Hale_Storm18 is ignorant? Not as ignorant as people of a specific group trying to change things all because religion isn't quite their thing and it's apparently too hard to ignore so they have to have their way. The pledge of allegiance isn't the only thing religion related that has been changed/has been attempted to be changed because someone can't just ignore it. You can't say "merry christmas" without getting b.itched at by someone that doesn't believe in it for f.ucks sake. And wow way to call someone out as H.itler just because they have a different opinion than you. Saying that you want the people that want to change everything that involves god to something that doesn't (instead of just ignoring it) to leave, does NOT equal "I want to kill ('get rid') of all the atheists."

I'm not talking specifically about atheists. I'm talking about everyone who doesn't believe in your specific god. And yes, we could ignore it, but it does not represent what should be a "pledge of allegience" to the country. Like I said, religion is supposed to be completely separate from government, and how the nation is run. If people just ignored everything that wasn't right, there would be no progress. Also, I believe I gave a valid reason to mention H.itler in my statement. I will repeat myself for you. You cannot just kick out the people who do not believe the same thing as you, nor can you kick out people who are not willing to ignore something that clearly only represents a portion of the american people.

In some states, it is a requirement to stand up and say the pledge in schools no matter what. I did an entire project on this last year.

i know a girl that was in my homeroom that recited the pledge of allegiance, but she didnt say "under god" because she didnt believe in him/. and i feel that would be more acceptable than taking it out from peopple who do belive in god and have a strong faith.

You are so right! You dont have to recite it. I mean USA is an amazing place to be compared to other places and they should be happy with what we have in the country. Thats part of our history we cant change it
