    Forever And A Day
    Chapter Forty-Six~Nate
My phone was ringing, and when I looked at the caller ID, it was Kelsey.
"Hello?" I answered, keeping my voice down. Normally they don't approve of cell phones in hospitals.
"Nate, oh my gosh. are you okay?" she said from the other end.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I told her.
    "What happened?" She sounded worried.
"I got in a fight with this kid and he ripped my stitches out. But it's okay, I broke his nose."
"Nate, be careful. Did it hurt? Are you sure you're okay?" she asked.
"Kels, I'm fine. They just had to replace the stitches and stuff," I said, trying to calm her.
"Kelsey Carter," I said suddenly. "Are you skipping class?" I tried to sound appalled.
"Well, kinda, I just had to make sure you were okay..." she laughed.
"Are you gonna go home soon, or do you have to stay?" she asked.
    "I don't know," I said honestly.
I heard the door open and whispered,
"I gotta go, I love you," before I could get in trouble.
It was the doctor, he was smiling slightly.
"This was exactly what I meant when I said, 'Don't do anything stupid', Nate."
I just looked at him. He sighed and asked my to pull up my shirt so he could look at the stitches. "I think you can go home," he said. "But you really need to be careful."
"Yeah, I will," I said, glad that I was able to get out of the hospital.
It still hurt, but not even half as bad as it did when it first happened. I got off the bed and went into the hallway to find my mom.
"Let's go," I whispered when I found her.
She looked at me like she just saw me for the first time. Her eyes were wide and wet.
"Oh, Nate," she cried. She pulled me into a hug and started crying.
"Why are you crying? I'm fine," I said.
"No, Nate. It's not you this time."
Like the new format? I wanted to change things up a little(: Comment and favorite? (:

    Chapter Forty-Five~Kelsey
I was walking with Quinn, who seemed like she was really nice. We talked about so much, she was in all of my classes except for two - one of them bio, when I was with Nate, and the other English, when I was with Bridget. I was pretty excited to finally have friends at the new school, and I wasn't so sad about leaving EMHS anymore. I did miss my friends but everything seemed to be ten times better here. I sat down in my seat in bio, not surprised that Nate was late because I was usually here before him anyway. I started to get suspicious after the bell rang. "Has anyone seen Nate?" Mr. Andrews asked, looking around the room. "Skipping on his first day back? Not that it surprises me, really..." Mr. Andrews muttered. I looked over at Joey, because usually if Nate's gonna skip, Joey either knows where he is or he's with him. When I looked over, Joey was staring at his hands which were in his lap. And he was sitting still. That's when I knew something was wrong. While Mr. Andrews checked homework, I leaned across the desk and hissed, "Joey." I don't know if he heard me or if he ignored me, but he didn't reply or even look up. "Joey," I tried again. "Joseph!" He looked up, startled. "What?" he asked. "Where is he?" I asked in a whisper. "Where is who?" Joey asked. "Nate, obviously," I answered, annoyed. "Oh. Yeah. Nate. Right," he said. "Joey. Where is Nate? Is he okay?" I whispered. "I don't know. He went to the hospital because -" He got cut off by Mr. Andrews. "Mr. Thompson, is there something I can help you with?" he asked. "No, I was just telling Kelsey that-" he started. "That will be enough, unless you want a detention," Mr. Andrews said. "But you asked what-" Mr. Andrews said loudly, "I'll see you in detention tomorrow Mr. Thompson." Joey stared at him. "I didn't do anything wrong! You asked, and I was trying to tell you! And I already have a detention tomorrow, anyway," he said. Mr. Andrews shook his head. "Moving on, then..." Joey looked at me and shrugged. I sighed. I was really worried, and now there was no way I could know what happened to Nate. I just hoped he was okay. After bio, I ran to catch up with Joey in the hallway. "Joey, what's going on?" I asked. "I don't really know, I just heard they got into a fight and Nate left school, so I texted him and he said he was at the hospital but he didn't tell me what happened," he explained. "Wait, wait, who was in a fight?" I asked. "Nate and Kyle," he answered. "Who's Kyle?" Joey sighed as he closed his locker. "Look, Kelsey, my next class is at the other side of the school. I gotta go, just call Nate or something." I stared at him. "But what if he's-" I started. "I'm sure he's fine. Nate seems to always be fine," he said and walked down the hallway. I stared after him with an open mouth. Quinn came up from behind me. "Did you hear about the fight?" she said nervously. "Kinda," I choked out. "Oh my goodness, what's wrong?" she said after looking at my expression. "Nate's in the hospital. Again. I don't know how serious it is this time," I answered. I felt like crying. Who was this Kyle kid, and why would he hurt Nate? Didn't he know about the car accident? I looked around and then pulled Quinn into the bathroom with me. "What are we doing?" she asked. "I'm gonna call Nate," I said. She nodded and sat on the sink. I pressed send and waited while it rang for what seemed like hours.

    Chapter Forty-Two, Part Two~Kelsey
"I think you're in a few of my classes," Quinn said. "We should hang out." I nodded a bit too eagerly, but I really wanted to make friends here. "Sure, sounds like fun," I said. I was suddenly aware of an arm being wrapped around me and Quinn and Bridget exchanging shocked looks. I looked up to see Nate standing there with Joey close behind him. "Hey, Natie. What's up?" I smiled. "Hi, Kels," he smiled back and gave me a quick kiss. "Hi, Joey," I said. He gave me a nod and turned away, lighting up a cigarette. "Um, Nate, you probably know Quinn and Bridget," I said, gesturing towards them. He gave them a wave and said hi; I saw Quinn's cheeks turn super red and Bridget bite her lip. There was a slight smile playing on Nate's lips. "How're you feeling?" I asked him. "Better than yesterday, I guess," he said. "Excited for your first day back?" I joked. "Course. I get to see you," he replied. I blushed. "Come on, Nate. Kali's over there with Dylan and Jordan," Joey said, exhaling a tuft of smoke. Nate rolled his eyes. "Okay, I'll talk to you later," he said, and then leaned down to whisper "I love you," in my ear. I watched him and Joey walk away. God, he looked so adorable in his uniform. I turned my attention back to Quinn and Bridget. "You're going out with him?" Bridget asked. I nodded, "Yeah, I have been for a while now." Quinn and Bridget looked back and forth between each other and me. "You know that's Nate Coleman, right?" Quinn asked after a pause. "Yeah," I answered in a confused voice. From the looks on their faces, I thought they were going to yell at me or something. "Oh my goodness, you are sooo lucky!" Quinn squealed. Bridget nodded in agreement. "So you like bad boys, huh?" she asked, smiling. "Oh, Nate's not a bad boy. He's so sweet," I said a little defensively, but I knew I was lying a little. Or a lot. Quinn laughed like it was the funniest thing she'd heard in a while. "Nate's been in my class since kindergarten. He is the exact definition of a bad boy, Kelsey. Look at him. Didn't you hear he almost died because he and Joey were driving from a party drunk?" she said. Of course I heard. I was there at the hospital right after. "Yeah, I guess you're right," I laughed, shooting a glance at Nate. He was laughing with Joey and a bunch of their friends. "He's like the hottest guy in the whole school! The whole city even, maybe the entire country! He's freaking gorgeous! I mean, in my opinion, I think he's hotter than King Alex..." Bridget was saying. I was still smiling when the bell rang. I was so glad that I had friends at this school. For that one day, my life was like 90% perfect.

    Chapter Forty-Two, Part One~Kelsey
On Monday morning, my mom drove me to school instead of Corey for the first time since Corey got his licence two years ago. "This is your new school?" my mother asked in disbelief when we pulled up. "Yeah," I answered, fumbling around to get all my things. "It looks so...expensive. Aren't we so lucky you're my little genius?" she smiled. I didn't really look at her. I opened the car door into the freezing Februaury morning air. "Bye, pumpkin!" she called. "Bye," I muttered. My breath showed up like steam coming from my mouth. I walked across the snow covered lawn to the main enterance, where about a hundred students were huddled together close to the door. Two girls were walking ahead of me, and I saw a twenty dollar bill flutter out of one of their pockets. I rushed foward to pick it up and then to give it back to the girl. "Here," I said after tapping her on the shoulder. "You dropped this." I gave her a weak smile. "Oh my gosh, thank you. That's my lunch money for the week. I would have starved if I lost it," she laughed. The other girl smiled at me too, and said: "I've never seen you around before. Are you new?" I nodded. "Yeah, I just transferred here from EMH," I told them. "Isn't that they public school?" the blond girl asked. She said "public school" in a disbelieving way, almost the way someone would say "No!" if they heard the most popular boy in school was going out with the nerdiest girl. "Yep, the one in East Michaud," I laughed a little bit. "I'm Kelsey, by the way." The blond one smiled. "Nice to meet you, Kelsey. I'm Quinn Larsen," she introduced herself. "I'm Bridget Taylors," the brunette told me.

    Chapter Forty, Part Two~Kelsey
He sat down on the bed while I took a chair in front of my desk. My room had soft yellow walls and a mahogany wood floors. My bedspread didn't really match; it was light blue with green and pink flowers. My room was tiny, but always neat. "How are you feeling?" I asked Nate. "Alright," he said. "But I'm coming back to school on Monday. And I can't wait to start playing hockey again. Joey says the high school team sucks really bad." I smoothed out my skirt as he talked. "When are you going to start playing again?" I asked. "I don't know. Hopefully really soon. The doctors said I couldn't play until I felt 100%, but that will take weeks. I think I'll just lie and maybe my mom will let me play," he said. "But you'll get hurt again," I told him. "Nah, I'll be fine. Besides, if I wait, hockey season will be over by the time I can play again," he answered. "I'm really glad you're coming back to school. I don't know hardly anyone, and I missed you like crazy," I said as I smiled at him. He smiled back. I slowly stood up and crossed the room. I sat down next to him on the bed, and he gently pulled me to him. We pressed our lips together, and it was like a thousand fireworks exploding in the air around me. I couldn't breathe, but I didn't mind, because when I kissed Nate, I felt so happy, and so alive. Before I know it, I was on Nate's lap with my legs wrapped around him. My fingers were moving through his soft black hair. Nate's lips were moving down my throat, and then back up again to eagerly touch my lips. My heart thudded unevenly. I wanted Nate with everything in me, and I wanted him now. Someone cleared their throat. We both froze mid-kiss. My eyes snapped open and my head whipped around to see Sydney standing in the doorway with her lips pursed. "Mom wants you guys to come downstairs to the living room," she said, and slammed the door. I turned back to Nate; I was still in his lap. "You know what I think?" he asked. "No, what?" I smiled, still struggling for breath and to steady my pounding heartbeat. I could feel blood hammering in my ears. "I think your sister's jealous," he smirked. "She is!" I exclaimed. We both laughed and Nate held me tight against him. "We have to go downstairs," I sighed sadly. "Damn," Nate muttered and then smiled at me. He lifted my off so I was standing up and then got off the bed. He held the door open for me and then said, "Ladies first." I giggled and took his hand so he was right behind me as we went downstairs. I was filled with so many emotions. I was really nervous for my mother to meet Nate though, and as we got closer and closer, that moved to the front of my mind.

    Chapter Thirty-Eight, Part Two~Kelsey
"Your boyfriend is mad hot," she gushed. "Uh, thanks, I guess," I muttered. "I can't wait to meet him. I bet he's amazing. None of my friends believe that you're going out with Nate Coleman. Can you get me an autograph? Or three? Please, Kelsey, he's so gorgeous. Seriously, what's he like? How come you haven't brought him home yet? Are you guess serious? Have you-you know-" she smiled mischievously. "I'm not telling you that!" I said to her. She moved her long red hair to one side. "Then you didn't. Because that was the perfect time to brag how you lost your V-card to one of the hottest boys in the world," she smirked. "So what about those autographs? Can I meet him? Please? You get to see him all the time, it's not fair! How did you even meet? What does he see in you?" Maybe she didn't intend for the last part to be hurtful (or maybe she did), but it was. I pushed past her and slammed the door. "Kels," she said through the door. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that." I couldn't tell if she was lying or not. "Are you going to get me those autographs? Or maybe a picture of you guys together? Everyone thinks I'm a crazy liar." I opened the door a crack. "Sydney. He's a prince, not a movie star. I don't think he does autographs. You can ask him when he comes over tomorrow night," I told her. "Can I see your phone?" she asked. "Why? No," I said. "Just- Kelsey-" she lifted my arm up so she could see my phone. "Oh my God. He's so sexy," she breathed. "He's mine," I snapped. She was looking at my wallpaper, a picture of Nate and I that I had taken a few days before Nate's accident. "Send that to me," she said. "Can you leave?" I said. "No, Kelsey, just send me the freaking-" She reached for my phone and I jerked it away. We started wrestling for it. "Corey!" I called loudly. I was so used to calling him when I needed help that I didn't even think about calling mom. The door opened. "Sydney, get the hell off of Kelsey," he said. He pulled her off. "What are you doing?" he asked, looking back and forth between us. "She won't send me the picture of her and Nate together," Sydney huffed. "Why would you want that?" Corey looked confused. "Because no one believes that my sister is going to be a princess someday and I don't want people thinking I'm a liar! Plus, he's hot," she added that at the end, and I knew it was purposely to annoy me. "Sydney, shut up and get out of here. You okay, Kelsey? You don't look so good," Corey said. "No, I'm fine. It's just been a long, long week," I answered. I fell back on my bed. "It's almost over. Are you sure you're all right?" his eyebrows furrowed. "I just have a little headache. I think I'm going to go to sleep or something," I said. "Call me if you need anything, okay?" He closed the door. I heard my mom humming in the kitchen, oblivious to the fact that my sister had just nearly killed me or that I didn't feel well. I shook my head and sunk back against the pillows, going to sleep within a few minutes.
Sorry for the long wait; I can't wait until school is over, then I can write more. Comment and favorites(:

    Chapter Thirty-Eight, Part One~Kelsey
I looked up at Nate; he was staring back at me. For a moment I was lost in his emerald-colored eyes. Then he smiled nervously and I snapped back to reality. "Uh, what was I saying?" I muttered. "How you needed to talk to me," Nate said. "Oh, right. Okay, I was talking to my mom last night...about you..." I trailed off. Nate would be fine with everything, but I was nervous. Nate just nodded. "So, how do you feel?" I asked him brightly. "No, what were you going to say?" he smirked. "My mom wants to meet you," I said quickly. Nate shrugged. "What's the big deal?" he asked. "Don't you remember what I told you before? Or were you so drugged up that you don't?" I asked. "No, I do. But it's okay. I told you that we would be fine, didn't I?" he smiled. "You did," I smiled back. The urge to kiss him fought against me like the urge to breathe. Before I knew it I was staring into his eyes again. He reached over to me first, and he pressed his lips to mine. I felt my heart beat accelerate and my whole body tingle. I wanted Nate with everything in me. The way he acted, the way he smelled, the way he looked, everything. We were both gasping for breath when we broke apart. "Nate," I said breathlessly. "This has been the best and worst month of my entire life." Nate smiled and kissed me again, "I know exactly what you mean."That night when I got home, my mom was cleaning the house. I stood in the doorway, completely shocked. "Hey, Mom," I said after a minute or two of just watching her. "Hey, Kelsey sweetie, how was your day?" She scrubbed the counter and dusted the microwave and straightened the frames. "It was fine," I said. "You'll never believe who I saw on the news today!" she squealed. "Nate. I know. I saw him too," I mumbled as I sat down in a kitchen chair. I proped my head on my hand. "He really is such a cutie!" she exclaimed and smiled at me. "Yep, I know," I said blandly. "Is something wrong?" she asked. "No. Not at all," I answered and swept out of the room. I went down the hallway towards my room. My sister Sydney's door opened. "Kelsey, I have to tell you something," she said. "Okay," I said, looking past her to my room. I wasn't in the mood to talk.

    Chapter Thirty-Seven, Part Two~Nate
My mouth was slightly open as I thought of what I could possibly say. I could tell her it was Joey's, which is was, but then she would know he'd been here, and I'd be in trouble and be grounded longer; or I could tell her it was mine, and still get in so much trouble. I closed my eyes. I wished I could stop time and think of this amazingly believable lie to go with, "I have no idea how that got in here!", but I couldn't so I would just have to wing it. "Why does my life have to suck so bad?" I groaned. "Why are you doing this? Don't you know you're sick already? This could kill you. Kill you, Nathaniel!" she said through tears. "Mom. It's not mine," I said, looking at the bag of weed in her hand, and then at her. "Then who's is it?" she asked, her eyes flashing. "Joey's," I mumbled. "Don't lie to me, Nathaniel," she warned. "No, really, that's not mine," I exclaimed. "I don't believe you," she said, stepping closer. She was about a half a foot shorter than I was, but I still cowered away, thinking she was going to hit me. "Mom, it's not mine!" I said. "Get me tested! Search my room! Look through my texts!" My mother sighed and pointed to the bed. "Sit," she commanded. "Why?" I asked quietly. "Sit," she repeated. I walked across the room and sat on the bed. She paced around in circles. "You're going to kill me, I swear, Nathaniel," she said. I must have looked confused, because she went on to say, "You'll give me a heart attack one of these times. I'm constantly worried about you." I shook my head. "Why?" I asked. She stopped pacing. "You're my little boy. You're my sick one. And you never, ever listen," she said. "I don't need you to worry about me," I told her. "Why not?" she asked. "Because I do know that I'm sick, and I don't need you constantly reminding me. There are times that I just want to forget about it all, because it's hard. But I do know the limits. I'm not trying to kill myself. I've really only smoked weed once. Seriously. I already told you that, but you still don't believe me. You don't trust me. I know why. I think that maybe, if I had been born first instead of Alex, you wouldn't be so hard on me. Maybe if you hadn't already had the perfect son, you wouldn't be expecting another one. I'm not even close to perfect, but I'm not a total screw-up, either. If you stopped picking out all my horrible qualities, maybe you could find something that I can do that Alex can't. I'm way better at hockey than him. I'm really good at hockey. It's my thing. But you wouldn't know, because you hardly ever come to games." She tried to talk, but I cut her off. "I've heard your excuses, you don't need to repeat them. All Alex can do on a skateboard is an ollie. I'm great at skateboarding. So what if I can't lead an international summit or write good laws or always tolerate the paparazzi being in my face all the time? Alex and I are different people. We're good at different things. I got an 85 on my last math test, but you were too busy focusing on the 27 I got on the English essay to notice it."

    Chapter Thirty-Five, Part Two~Nate
I put my head in my hands to cover up a laugh. "No," I said from behind my hands. "You can't lie. I need this on your records," the doctor said. "Nate," my mother warned. "You know what? I have to go to the bathroom." I got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom. I waited until I heard the doctor leave, and then I went back into my room. I got back onto the bed. My mother was glaring at me from her seat. "Nate, I-" she started. "I'm tired. Can we talk about this later?" I said. I would have said anything to get out of whatever my mom was going to talk to me about. She sighed but didn't say anything else. I guess I fell asleep, because I woke up the next morning when my mom was shaking my shoulder. "Ow, stop," I muttered, not even bothering to open my eyes. "Nate, it's time to go home," she said. She shook me a little bit more. "Ow. You're hurting me," I mumbled. "Then get up." I moaned. "Nate," she said. She shook me more, harder this time. "Oh my God, stop. It hurts," I said, opening my eyes to the bright room. "Good, you're awake. Let's go, I haven't been home in too long," she said brightly, packing all my things. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. "It's so early," I moaned. "You can sleep when we get home," she answered. "Come on. I've got you all signed out and everything." I changed into jeans and a sweatshirt and then followed my mom out the door. We waved goodbye to everyone in the hall as we passed, my mother shouting out thank-yous and even giving out a few hugs. I stood there awkwardly, partly because I was still half asleep and partly because it kind of hurt to stand up. We got all the way to the lobby before I remembered the paparazzi would be out there waiting. I sighed. "Sorry, sweetie. Almost to the car," my mother whispered in my ear as she opened the huge front doors. The flashing cameras blinded me and I squinted against the light. My mother put her arm around me and waved to the cameras, smiling. "Smile," she whispered through her teeth into my ear. "No," I answered rudely. The driver opened the door and I slid in, followed by Mom. I sighed and put my head back on the seat. My phone vibrated in my back pocket; it was a text from Kelsey. Kelsey: I just saw you on TV(: Nate: Great. I bet I looked hot(; Kelsey: You did(; When are you getting home? Nate: A few minutes. You coming over? Kelsey: Of course(: See you then. "Oh, Nate, I forgot to tell you. You're moving back into the palace."
Finally, the long-awaited chapter thirty-five(: Comments and favorites?
