Second Chance //
Chapter 18
Melissa's P.O.V.
We decided to stop snow tubing. Chelsea and Justin went back to the dining room, meanwhile Rose, Lily, Brett and I went in the elevator to our rooms to take a shower since we didn't get a chance to shower since yesterday.
We were on the elevator, with two old ladies.
"Hi!" Rose and Lily said to the old ladies. They still haven't learn to not talk to strangers.
"Aww, you girls are so cute!" one of the old ladies said.
"Yeah, and you look like your mother." the other old lady said to Rose, pointing at me.
"And you look like your father." the other old lady said to Lily, pointing at Brett.
"Actually, we're not-"
"And you two look like such a cute couple." the old lady said to Brett and I.
"No, she's not my-"
"You are all the most adorable family I have ever seen."
The elevator door finally opened.
"Goodbye." both of the old ladies said exiting the elevator.
"Melissa, you're not my mom! Mommy is!" Rose said with a giggle.
That misunderstanding, all the sudden made me feel very happy. The two old ladies thought that Brett and I looked cute together, even though we're not together. Can that mean something?
* * * * * *
We all headed towards the dining room after our showers. We sat at the same table as we sat in this morning. My phone suddenly played my ringtone. "Be right back." I told everybody.
I checked my phone and I have an incoming call from Stella. "Hello?"
"Hi Melissa!" Stella said.
"Hey Melissa" Emma said.
"Hi girls! It's Thanksgiving. What are you two doing together?" I asked.
"Both of our familes are having a Thanksgiving dinner together. So did you and Brett make out?" I heard giggling in the background.
"No! Still single."
"What?! I was sure you two were going to be together by then! I even bet Bonnie 10 bucks!" Stella added.
"Then learn your lesson. Never bet on friends."
"Aw, then I better tell Layla bet's off." Emma said.
"You too Emma?"
"Sorry." Stella and Emma said in unison.
I laughed. "It's okay guys, I forgive you."
"Yay!" Stella cheered.
"Happy Thanksgiving! We gotta go now, bye Melissa!" Emma said.
"Happy Thanksgiving to you too!" After that, I hanged up. They're the bestest friends anyone could ever ask for. Especially after having friends like Katy and Taylor.
I got back to the dinner table, seeing Brett stealing some of my fries on my plate. I smacked his hand. "Get your own fries buddy. They're mine."
"After you stole my muffin that's the least I can do." Brett recalled.
"Fine, I guess you won't mine if I take an onion ring." I took one off his plate. We both started laughing.
"Okay, you know what? I'm just going to ask! Brett, is Melissa your girlfriend?" Chelsea asked.
The whole table was silent, now paying attention to Chelsea, Brett, and I.
I felt a blush coming on my cheeks.
"Come on, we were all thinking it!" Chelsea blurted out.
Everyone in the table agreed with Chelsea.
"Well, it's not official or anything, but yeah, Brett and Melissa are pretty much boyfriend and girlfriend." Lily answered, Rose nodding in agreement.
I looked at Brett, and no trace of blush on his face! I hate it, it makes me mad. I'm blushing as red as a tomato and he's all cool, calm, and collected! Where does he get all of his confidence?!
"No, Melissa is not my girlfriend." he said calmly.
"But look at the blush at Melissa's face! Something must be going on between you two!" Chelsea argued.
"Read my lips. Melissa is nothing more than an acquaintance." Brett calmly said.
"No! The old ladies said that you two were married!" Rose argued.
"Rose, those ladies don't know us. They were taking an educated guess." I told her.
"Darn it!" Rose and Lily said.
"Okay, how about we just not talk about this and just eat?" Brett suggested.
Everyone agreed but Chelsea, Rose, and Lily.
Those words Brett said stung me. I'm just an 'acquaintance' to him? I thought that he at least considered me as a friend. After all, I considered him as a friend...
