When He Says 'I love you'...
Chapter 1
I pull on my shoes quickly, grab a cereal bar and give a quick shout to Karl saying goodbye. First day back and I’m late. Twenty minutes late. Mr Matthews is going to absolutely slaughter me!
I jump in my car and drive off down the road. A million thoughts are rushing through my head. I have got all my books…right? And I swear I put in my folder! I think. Oh my god I’m so unorganised. I must take after my dad. He was always ten minutes late to everything. He was. Now he doesn’t bother turning up…at all.
I pull into the car park and it’s full of cars. I have to drive round at least twice to find a spot and eventually I do. I sprint into the building and into my new form room. Mr Matthews is just handing out timetables. He turns and smiles at me.
“How lovely of you to join us Miss Croft!” Mr Matthews grins. “I mean, detention on the first day. Can’t be good right? Well detention happens to be on Friday Miss Croft. Sit down and I will fill out a slip. It’s in Mr Wilde, the new English teacher’s classroom, I think.”
“I had a dentist appointment!” I protest.
“On the first day?! HA! Don’t lie to me Miss Croft, or it will be detention for the next three weeks!” Mr Matthews chuckles.
“Eurgh!” I sigh.
I frown to myself as he hands me the slip and I take a seat. My best friend Morgan looks at my disappointedly. I mouth a quick sorry to her and look back down at my timetable. It wasn’t too bad compared to last year. Last year practically every first lesson was maths, not a good way to start your day. Mr Moore would get you in a mood that you would carry around in your mind all day. On Wednesdays I almost died. Double maths, double physics, biology and then art, double English. The art bit wasn’t bad but the morning was terrible. But the worst day on here is Friday but then we still have double music and double expressive arts on that day so I’ll live.
“We’re going to Lorraine’s party this Friday Nessa!” Morgan groans, making me jump and look up.
She’s hovering over my desk pouting miserably. I sigh and fold my timetable up. Don’t get me wrong, I love to party, but Lorraine holds a party almost every two weeks, and I end up getting ditched by Morgan who runs to the bedroom with her boyfriend Ethan. It’s depressing, but I live with it. She is my best friend and she helps me so much with all my problems. I can’t complain.
“I’ll be there! Just a bit later. Detention finishes at six, takes me half an hour to get home, then an hour and a half to shower, make-up and get dressed. So I’ll be there around eight. It starts at seven so I won’t be that late!” I laugh.
Morgan nods slowly. “Did you seriously have a dentist appointment?”
“Nope. Kyle forgot to wake me up. He thought it was Sunday. He was also late for work I think,” I giggle. “Sorry.”
“Sunday?!” Morgan’s jaw drops.
“Mmm…yeah,” I sigh.
“Isn’t he mister responsible?” Morgan chuckles.
