Say Hello, To Goodbye
Chapter Four
The Waitress.
Nick parallel parked across from Mike's bar. He walked into the place and waved to the locals, occasionally saying hello to some of them. Then finding Charles at his usual spot in a booth.
"Hey man." Charles smiled nicely.
"Whats up dude?" Nick asked, taking a seat across from him.
"Oh just waiting on Christine. Want one?" He asked while sipping on his cold beer.
"Nah. What's this surprise you have for me?" That was the only reason Nick came.
When Charles smiled, his two buck teeth popped up. He was a goofy looking guy. "Christine's cousin is down for a little bit, so I kinda set you up on a blind, double date."
Nicks face turned red, "Oh come on, Charles. Why do you do this stuff to me? I don't date. I just don't, okay?" Nick stood up furiously.
Charles said blankly, "Chill Nick."
"No." Nick turned around coldly and ran into someone.
"Leaving already?" Christine asked confused.
"Uhm... yeah. I have to do some stuff." He looked behind Christine to see a young girl eyeing every inch of him. And by the looks of it, she approved.
"Really?" the girl asked. "Like what?"
Nick looked in her deep blue eyes, he could see the disappointment.
"Nevermind. I'll deal with it later." and they all sat at down together.
They talked about random things and Christine told why her cousin, Bridget, was down for awhile. She also told stories about when they were younger. Nick zoned out, thinking about hearing that voice on his voicemail today. Until the waitress came.
"Hey guys. What can I get for you?" She asked, while pulling a notepad out, then tucking a small strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
Nick was flustered. "Hey?" He said in an asking tone.
She smiled at him, "Nick! Long time no talk!"
He smiled back at her. Cemetary girl was his waitress. She had on a white, plain shirt and black pants. Her long blonde hair was in a ponytail and she had no make up on. But he knew she was the most beautiful girl in the room. He stopped his thoughts, "Oh yeah, I know. You work here?"
"As of yesterday! I like it though. Big Mike is super nice." She laughed at herself. She had one of those laughs that make you want to laugh along, no matter what she was saying.
So that's what Nick did. He laughed with her. Then he realized he had was ignoring his double date. "Oh yeah, these are my friends, Charles, Christine, and her cousin, Bridget. Guys this is..." He trailed of realizing he didn't even know her name.
She smiled and looked back at her notepad, "I'm your waitress." She laughed. "What would you like?"
The date carried on and they all ate together, enjoying the night. But Nick just sat in his own world. Looking for cemetary girl and thinking about what her name was and why she wouldn't tell.
By the end of the night, Charles was drunk and being an idiot, like usual. The girls decided to take him home. Christine handed Nick the money and asked him to pay. He said his goodbyes to them and watched them leave. Bridget was a cute and nice girl, but he didn't plan on seeing her again.
He grabbed his wallet and walked to the front of the bar. And there she was. Counting the money, not even looking up. The bar was just about to close. He walked quietly to her and just handed over the bill and the money. Trying to make himself look like a fool. Nick never had trouble with talking to girls, besides with her.
"Your friends left." She stated, still counting, not looking up at him.
"Oh yeah." He watched her green eyes stare at each dollar. "Charles was pretty wasted."
"Do you drink?" She asked curiously, putting the money down and typing his total into the cash registor.
"No." he quickly answered.
"Good. Me either. You see, my dad did alot and it was awful, so i stay away from that stuff." She smiled at him, handing him his change. "Thanks for coming Nick."
"Thanks." He turned around and headed towards the doors, but turned back around. "What's your name? You never told me."
She looked down at the ground then back to him, "It's Mia. My name is Mia."
"Well thank you and goodnight Mia." He began walking again.
"And you never asked." She said loudly enough for him to hear.
Nick turned around and looked at her, staring at him. "Huh?"
"My name. I never told you, because you never asked." She looked at him smiling. That gorgeous smile.
The kind of smile that made Nick breathless. He loved her smile, like she loved his eyes.
