Without A Doubt
Chapter 5 Part 2
My face drained of blood and the note dropped from my hand.
‘That pathetic, little b//stard,’ Melody scoured. I didn’t say anything, I just stood there, transfixed. The tears began to tremble down my cheeks.
‘It’s starting again...,’ I whispered.
‘Brooke? Look, it’s gonna be okay,’ Melody reassured.
‘NO, IT’S NOT! He is gonna kill our best friend, Melody! We can’t do this on our own,’ I shouted, collapsing to the floor.
‘We’ve got the others, they can help.’
‘WE’RE ONLY TEENAGERS, Melody!’
She gasped, astonished at my outburst. I thumped the floor hard. I needed to take my anger out on something else other than Melody.
‘I’m sorry Melody,’ I apologised. She smiled, accepting my apology.
‘I love you and I never want to lose you,’ I continued.
‘I love you too Brooke.’ She lifted me off the ground and hugged me. ‘C’mon, let’s go back. They might know what to do.’ We still held each other close as we exited the hall. Suddenly, we heard shouts waft over from the bins.
‘Thump her chest! Do mouth to mouth! Do something!’ We sprinted over in fear.
Ryan and Mark surrounded the girl who had been shot in the leg. Her chest did not rise and fall. Her gunshot wound was a bloody mess and she was drenched in a pool of dark, red blood.
Do something!’ Ryan wept, staring at me with red puffy eyes. I fell on to my knees and pumped her chest. Nothing happened. I pinched her nose and breather into her mouth. She did not regain consciousness.
Ryan,’ I whispered slowly ‘she’s gone’. The glint in his eye averted into a hard, black stare.
‘You did this Brooke. You brought him here. You made him kill all these innocent people. You made him kill Katie. I wouldn’t be surprised if you worked for him!’ he snarled.
‘RYAN!’ Mark gasped.
‘You should have died with your brother that night. None of this would have happened if you were dead!’ Ryan finished.
I wanted to fight back, but I didn’t. It was all true. If I had died, all these innocent, young teenagers would still be alive.
I slowly struggled off the ground.
‘I’m so sorry,’ I whispered and I ran. I ran until I couldn’t go any further. They shouted after me – begging and pleading with me to stop. But I didn’t.
I needed all this to end. And so, I clambered on to the roof of the building...
