Far Away (Page2)
As his eyes flutter open, Eric is
overwhelmed by a bright blinding light. ‘Oh god I am
dead’ he thought, but as he blinked the room came into focus.
He was in the hospital lying on a bed in one of those single rooms.
The constant beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound he
could hear as he slowly sat up. A piercing pain shot through him
and he clutched at his chest, looking down he could see that his
chest was wrapped in a white bandage. Lifting the blood stained
bandage he could see a large bruised area where he was shot. The
actual hole looked disgusting; Eric quickly placed the bandage back
into place. He really didn’t feel like hurling over his own
wound. He was startled by the door opening and a pretty nurse
walking in, she had long natural red hair that hung over her small
shoulders. She was holding a clipboard with a paper on it her nails
were long and painted a pretty blue green color.
Eric blinked and sat back against the pillow as the nurse looked up
at him her eyes widen. “You’re awake!” She
exclaimed in almost disbelief. Eric unable to process words just
nodded softly, she softly giggled and walked over to sit on his
bedside, looking back down at the clipboard she scribbled a few
unseen words and looked back up to Eric. “So how are you
feeling honey?” He watched her lips move and then looked up
at her eyes, they were a beautiful blue almost like the
ocean…His head right then is flooded with the scene of him
jumping off the cliff and diving into the ocean…
“S...Sore...” His voice sounded weak and soft, slightly
shaky as well. The nurse’s pretty smile faded as she nodded
softly to his answer. “It is expected to be sore after being
shot dear.” Eric placed a hand on his own forehead and looks
up to the ceiling. “H…How did I get here?” All
he could remember was running for his life then falling to his
knees as he was shot on the road. “Well a nice young man
found you laying on the side of the street bleeding quiet bad, he
called for an ambulance.” The nurse smiled again and he could
swear that smile could calm anybody down. “H…How long
have I…” Eric wasn’t able to finish before the
nurse spoke up.”…been unconscious?” her ocean
colored eyes looked back down to the clipboard and scanned over it
then drifted back up to look at him, her voice riddled with
sympathy. All he could do was nod; she slightly looked away and
spoke softly. “You have been out about a week or two.”
Eric was shocked by her answer; he had been asleep for a couple of
weeks?!
After about another week in the hospital and a million more
questions like; where am I? Will I be okay? How bad is it? How long
do I have to stay here? Do you have family Eric? Where are you from
Eric? How old are you…ect. Of course all of the questions
were answered, Eric was 16 both his parents were dead; he
didn’t know where any of his other family was. He was an only
child, so the hospital called the orphanage for him. Upon arriving
to the orphanage he could believe his eyes. The orphanage was a
huge building old worn dark bricks covered in vines and moss, the
windows however looked brand new. He stepped out of the car in the
new outfit that was gifted to him by the hospital staff, a plain
black T-shirt, dark faded jeans and his converse; that’s all
he had. The car driver smiled and waved at Eric and drove off just
as an older looking lady walked out of the two doors at the front
of the building. Her eyes were kind and framed by large glasses. He
couldn’t help but smile at her; she looked like a librarian
from a cartoon he watched as a child. “Hello my dear, welcome
to the Ever Day Orphanage.”
