Sing
Chapter
Four
"Well?" She demanded.
I glowered at her, irritated. "Well what."
She snorted, "Wow, Mary. Uh, how about it's now just
10:00 in the morning and you've been gone for a good 3 hours.
And you didn't leave a note or anything. Not even a text
message." I glared at my mother. "You may be my mother
but you aren't the boss of me any more. I'm almost 20 you
know." She shook her head. "While you live here, you
follow my rules. Go to your room." I shook my head, tears
streaming violently down my face. "No."
I stormed out, back the way i'd come, and instict drove me
straight to the coffee shop.
It was really early morning, so the place was deserted.
"Hey, Mary. I'm actually heading out for a bit. Mind
holding down the fort while i'm gone?" I smiled at Lori,
and she hugged me. "Here, i'll be back soon." She
tossed me the keys to the place and locked the door on her way
out.
I roamed around, aimlessly bored. I turned on the radio and
jumped up to a great song.
"strip to the waist, we fall in to the river"
"Cover your eyes so you don't know the
secret."
I hummed and sang along with Ellie Goulding.
"But since we found out, since we found out, that
anything could happen."
I belted out the long notes, and completely unaware I was no
longer alone.
"Well done, Mary." I gasped and spun around,
dropping the books i'd been placing back on the shelves in
the loft.
I fumbled to turn off the music and we were left in a momentarily
awkward silence.
"Why did you stop?" He asked. I ignored it, "How
did you get in here?"
He jingled a few keys in my direction. "Lori let's me
stop by sometimes. I heard you singing. You're
amazing."
I could feel my face heating up, "Er thanks, but i'm
nothing special." I waved it away but he insisted.
"Stop acting like you aren't beautifully talented."
He took a few steps closer and pulled me into a tight hug, which
I let myself melt in to. When I stepped away and looked curiously
up at him, he merely smiled crookedly at me.
"Come on Mary. Sing."
