It's funny how one night can
change everything. Something about the smell of ocean
water
and
greasy foods filling the air. Bright, flashing lights and people
everywhere. Something about the sounds of boardwalk rides and
waves crashing below. Something about the summer, and the way
your life feels endless. Something about feeling as if anything
is possible and summer will last forever. Or maybe, its all of
that, rolled into one big storm cloud that strikes in one night
and changes everything. Everyone can flash back and pinpoint the
exact night when their lives were forever altered. That night was
mine.
Can we fall, one more time, stop the tape and
rewind. Oh, and if you walk away, I know I'll fade cause
there is nobody else, it's gotta be you. On-
"Hello?"
Rolling out of bed, I grabbed my phone off my
nightstand and sat up, while simultaneously pulling my glasses
on.
"Morning sunshine. We still on for tonight?"
I glanced at the clock. Leave it to Gia to
call me at eight a.m. to confirm plans that didn't begin for
twelve hours.
"Of course." I said, pushing myself
out of bed and making my way into the bathroom. Glancing in the
mirror, I pulled my hair into a bun and sat on the edge of the
sink while she rambled on about what to wear and her plan to
insure we would get on all the rides at least one. Once she had
finished and I had calmed her down enough to hang up, I left my
phone on the sink before climbing into the shower.
Twenty minutes later, wrapping a towel around
myself, I padded back into my bedroom and left my ipod on shuffle
while I raided my closet for something I could wear to the
boardwalk tonight. By the time I had finished, Same
Mistakes was blasting through the speakers and Gia was
laying on my bed singing along.
"Of course you can come over. Sure you can lay on my
bed, no, don't be silly, I don't mind."
She rolled her eyes at my
sarcasm as I pulled on a pair of black shorts and decided to pair
them with a gray, cut off One Direction shirt and my black wedge
flip flops. ( boarwalk_outfit/set?id=67100330)
"Mom's not home. Her
cars gone and everything's off so she won't be back for a
while, I took that as my cue to keep an eye on you."
Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. Straightening the locket my
dad had given me just before he died, I shook out my natural
waves before falling back on my bed next to Gia.
"You look cute." She mumbled, not even bothering
to open her eyes and look at me.
Closing my eyes,
I rolled over and allowed myself to fall back into a world of
dreams.
