Rachel sat down at her desk and looked ahead of her. She could see Alexia twirling her hair, Tristan’s face buried deep into a book, Kirsten flirting with Gus and all the rest of the class were doing their work. Rachel sighed and slumped into her chair. Being an unpopular girl meant that no one wanted to talk to her. No guys were always asking her out or flirting with her. She decided that she wanted to give herself a full makeover. After all, that’s all that people care about at Sweet Valley High. Appearance.

After school, she called her best and only friend Sydney.

“Hey Syd, do ya wanna come over? I'm gonna give myself a haircut and a new look.” I said, smiling into the phone. “Of course I would!” She squeals back. So in 10 minutes, Sydney and Rachel were sitting in front of Rachel’s full length mirror. “What type are you going for?” Syd says, brushing Rachel long brown hair. “I was thinking that… you could decide that.” Rachel says, winking. Sydney smiles and gets down to work. 20 minutes later, Rachel could hardly recognize herself. “Wow! How did you pull off the up down rough cut thing?! I look, like, AMAZING!” Sydney laughs. “That’s my little secret. Now, I'm going to teach you how to apply make-up perfectly.”

*the next day*

“Wow! Rachel, you look great!” Gus says.

REWIND

Rachel gets up stupidly early to get ready. She washes her hair, and straightened it. She the applied the make-up exactly how Sydney said to. “Less is more.” Rachel said out loud to herself. She applied her make-up and now she thought about what to wear. She decided on the outfit that Syd lent her: a strapless sundress and gold pumps with cute heart earrings.

When Rachel walked into school that morning, Gus said, “Wow! Rachel, you look great!” Rachel blushes and walks on. There is a crowd of people around Alexia’s locker. Then I see it. Actually him. I see the most gorgeous boy, I have ever seen in my life. He is tall with brown hair and the most gorgeous eyes. He looks at me and walks straight through the crowd of people surrounding him.
