Chapter
1:
It was now 3:37 in the morning. Neither mom
or I could keep our eyes open. I still kept my eyes open, just in
case Carter came out. My mom gently put her hand on my shoulder.
"Maddie..It's getting real late Dad is gonna worry about
us." I shook my head. "I can't.I won't. I`m
staying here." I said biting my lip. My mom gave me
concerning look. "Honey. We need to go now. When you wake up
tomorrow, we'll leave as quickly as we can." She said as
she stood up holding out her hand to me. "If I even go to
sleep." I said. I turned a glance back. "Carter!"
I gasped. My mom and I walked over to the door. Cartes mom,
Rebecca was crying shaking her head with misery. My eyes shot
open wide. "Mom?" I asked whispering. "Is
he..gone?" I said swallowing hard. "I don't know,
Maddie. I don't know." Rebecca saw us. "Give us a
call." My mom said quickly. Rebecca nodded and put her head
in her hands. I walked with Mom to the car. "If Carter
isn't gone. Why is she crying?" I asked. My mom
touched my shoulder. "Carter may not be dead. But he has a
tumor Maddie..." She said looking off into the busy street.
"I'd be crying if it happend to you..Or Jason." She
said as she got into the car and started it up. I tucked my hair
behind my air. We drove off home. When we got there, Dad was
standing in the Garage talking on his phone. His eyes lit up as
he saw our car pull in. He ran down to the car with tears in his
eyes. "I almost was about to send out a search party for
you!" He said opening my door. I held my Dad tight. Finally
he said "Is there anything wrong?" He asking stroking
my hair. "Carter has a tumor." I said with a crackling
voice. "I'm so sorry Madison." He said. I got ready
for bed and got in bed. Hoping to get some good results tomorrow.
I fell fast asleep into dreams of
nothingness.
