and when your father rubs in your face the fact that his friend's kids are becoming national champions at God knows what, and that you need to excercise more, and that you're so ungrateful for everything he "sacrifices", and how you need to be more social and join more clubs, and how youd should consider straight A's "an expectation with no reward", all the while being held in a chokehold and being screamed at.

All my parents to do is compare to my brothers. Well, one of them. "You're smart enough to get all A's life Jeff." "Jeff figured out high school by the end of his first semester" "Jeff graduated with a 4.0 GPA and so can you".
I'm not smart like Jeff. He's a well rounded, popular guy that can talk to anyone and be accepted. I've had hard times trying to find people who accept me even when I'm shy and normal ish.

My parents used to compare me to my sisters bestfriend. That he does great in school, has a job os he doesn't have to ask for money and I feel sick of it. I'm not him, I'm myself, I do my best and that's all I can do !

My other brother, Andy, well, I always get compared to him with art. Then Jeff with academics, when I'm barely struggling to survive, let alone get A's in all classes

I don't even try that hard in school anymore. Why ? When ever I do good in an exam and show my parents, they don't give a sh/t. When my sister does good for ONCE she gets all the praise. So I rather do bad and get a bit of attension no matter if it's positive or negative.....

Yeah, by doing that your actually embarrassing a child and knocking their confidence. Like for example, my little brother is 6 and could do a sum, my dad told my 3 year old brother to do it and he sis. i think my 6 yr old brother is dyslexic, but my dad doesn't see that. i dont think parents realise how much kids hate being compared to other people.
