In
Between
Two
I tried screaming but nothing came out. It was like
everything was happening in slow motion. Our car was upside down,
I could feel the blood that hadn't already left my body
rushing to my head. "Amy!" I heard a small voice cry
out. I searched vainly for her. I tried to unbuckle but my
fingers were clumsy and numb. "Lily? I'm here
Lily." I said, my voice sounded stronger then I felt.
She was lying on the pavement.
I climbed aimlessly across to where she was and clasped
our hands together. There was something sticky and warm between
our fingers. I didn't want to know whose blood it was. She
was crying, "It hurts, Amy. It hurts." I realized I was
crying now, "I know, Lil, I know. It's going to be
alright." I held her in my arms.
"Don't leave me, Amy. Don't leave me." I cried
outloud now, sobbing.
"I won't Lily! I won't. I'm sorry. I'm so
sorry."
I let the dark take over, as a rush of colors flared.
I was hardly aware of the strong arms lifting me up, prying my
fingers from Lily.
I was walking along an empty, white hallway bathed in a heavenly
glow.
"Ahhhh!" I screamed, as something hot and electric was
pounded against my chest. I started coughing and convulsing. My
eyes fluttered open, there were black spots everywhere. I was in
the back of an ambulance. "Lily?" I asked, but the
medic was holding my hand in his, tightly. "Lily?" I
asked, more frantic. I tried to sit up, the medic pushed me down.
"Lily! Lily!" The bed across from mine was covered head
to toe in a white sheet. "No! Lily, NO!" I screamed
louder, crying profusely. A limp arm drifted from beneath the
cloth, cold looking. Blue. "No, Oh God Lily No!" I let
the man push me back down. I didn't want to see anymore. I
didn't want to feel anymore.
