The Truth Comes Out Eventually
Chapter 10

I look at him through the window and I can tell he's concerned. I roll down the window. "Are you ok? I saw him lead you outside and he came back in, but you didn't." He notices my nose and neck. "Oh my God Jen!" He reaches through the window and I push him back. "Look, I'm fine." I just want to go home, my stomach hurts, and I think my nose is broken. "No, that's it you're going back inside." I look at him like he's crazy. "No! I can't! Why would you say that?" He leans in closer. "To  show him you're stronger. That you don't just run away. You can stand up for yourself." No I can't. "Whenever I stand up for myself this happens. " I lift up my blood stained shirt to reveal the massive bruise. He looks at me, shocked. He opens the door to my red Honda. "Fine, you don't want to go back in, I'm taking you to the hospital." I don't argue as I get out and sit in the driver's seat. He starts the car and pulls out of the parking lot. "But Ben, how do I explain what happened? They can't see my bruised arms. I can't say anything about Brett either." I lean my head against the leather seat and feel tears rolling down my face. There's a long pause. "Well, we can say you fell and hit your nose. They don't need to see your stomach or arms. If that's what you want." I take a deep breath "Ok, but what about my neck." I look in the rear view mirror, it's gotten worse. The bruises have become a black and blue necklace. "Um, can you use make up to cover it?" That's not a bad idea. I reach in my black Coach purse and pull out my cover up. I start applying it to my neck. By the time I've finished we've reached the hospital. He helps me out of the car and we walk  through the doors. "You sit down I'll let the nurse know what happened." I smile and sit down in one of the chairs. I look around and see a little girl with a pink cast on. I can't help but smile, even though her arm's broken she's still running around laughing like nothing happened. Ben sits next to me. "They said they'll take you soon, we're lucky it's not busy today." "Yea." We see the nurse walking over. "Jennifer Garfield, please come with me." I get up and Ben gets up too, I look at him. "It's ok I'll be fine." I smile and follow the nurse. But on the inside I'm worrying they're going to find my bruises and I'll have to say something about Brett. If I do that, he'll kill Ben for sure. She leads me down pearl white hallways and into one of the rooms, the X-Ray Room. "Ok so put this vest on, and lay down right here while we do a few X-Rays." I lay down for what feels like a century, but is only a few minutes. "Ok great, wait here while we print these." I sit up, this vest is really heavy, so I take it off. This room is very boring, white walls and floor, and a few X-Rays. The doctor comes back with a splint for my nose. "Hi, so it's broken, wear this for 4 weeks then come back and I will check on it." He puts the splint on, gives me information about what to do, and I leave the room. I walk down the hallway and into the lobby. The first person I see isn't Ben, but Brett.
