The Fighter
Chapter
1
Mason's
POV
"Mr. Mason Roderick. I
have been notified to send you home." My leader had said.
"Due to family issues it looks like." He continued,
staring at a piece of paper.
"Oh my god," I had thought to myself.
"Gabby, it has to be Gabby.. My little sister. I need to
get home right now. Does the paper say anything else?" I
said.
"Nope, nothing else. Get your things ready. You know
Roderick. You're a lucky man. Being able to go home to your
family like this."
"Sir, I know what you have to say is probably important,
but I really need to get home to my sister." I said
"Alright, I understand. You know, you're one of our
best boys, I would hate to see you leave. Please, come back..
when you can. This country needs you." He said with
passion in his voice. He made me realize how important I really
am.
"I can make no promises, but I will be back as soon as I
can, if I can." I said reassuring.
He nodded his head and I jogged off.
In my bag were plane tickets and I took an army vehicle to the
airport as directed.
I parked the vehicle in the back and went to the front
entrance.
My plane was announced on the speakers.
I walked towards the doors of "Door A" where my plane
was parked.
I quickly got on the plane. Everything seemed so
rushed.
I couldn't stop but think of Gabby. Poor
Gabriella.
"What was wrong?" I thought to myself. "What
could be happening? Why wasn't there anything else in that
letter? Gabby will make it. No matter what it is. She's the
strongest girl I've ever met."
I don't even know if Gabby is the reason why I am being
sent home.
Before I knew it, 11 hours were over. Just like that. I got off
my plane to meet my parents in the airport. Sure enough they
were crying.
"Gabby.." is all they could choke out.
"Let's get in the car and go to the hospital.
Now." I demanded.
I was the one to drive because I had no patience in this
situation. I needed to get to my little sister.
Sure enough I was speeding, going through red lights. Not a
care in the world right now what was around me. We
arrived at the hospital and I went to the front desk asking for
Gabby's room number with my parents behind me.
"Gabby is restricted no visitors at this time. Not even
family members. I am sorry. A doctor will be out shortly with
some news."
I couldn't help but cry.
Was it that bad? She couldn't even have visitors? What was
going on?
My parents were sobbing. I couldn't bother them with
questions. But I needed answers.
"What.. What's happening?" I could nearly
speak.
"The drug.. When she was on trial. Everyone thought it was
going great. There was no reason to take her off the drug even
though it had failed for everyone else. She had great results.
It was almost as if she would be cured by the end of the
trial." My dad said. "Then suddenly she stopped
breathing. The doctors don't know if she's okay or not.
But all we can do is pray." He added.
And then, that's when the doctor came out. He was heading
towards us and started to speak. "Gabby, she doesn't
look so great. I don't think there's anything to do to
keep her alive."
"YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!" I yelled, dragging all of
the people's attention. My heart was pounding. "YOU
CAN'T JUST LEAVE HER IN THERE! ABOUT TO DIE! I can't
loose my little sister."
