Look At Me...Please.
Chapter Two
I frowned.
“Looks...nice? I don’t see anyone.”
Torbin got out of his car and stuffed his keys into his shorts
pocket. He leaned down and stuck his head inside the car before
he closed it. Being about 6 foot 2, he had to lean quite far to
be at eye level with me.
“You’re not looking hard enough.”
He started walking away, into the forest on a barely noticeable
path. I hopped out of the car, and jogged up to him. I started to
hear voices the deeper we got into the forest, and then I saw
people. A boy with shaggy dark hair and green eyes, slightly
shorter Torbin, greeted us, as I stood beside him awkwardly.
“Torb! Who’s this?”
He asked gesturing to me. I looked at the boy and gave a weak
smile.
“I...”
“That’s Tori.”
Torbin interrupted me, which in this case I didn’t mind,
because the boy scared me for no reason whatsoever.
“She’s, um –“
Torbin leaned in and whispered to the boy, loudly enough that I
could hear.
“She’s shy.”
They both laughed and the boy gave me a smile. His teeth were
perfect, his smile almost contagious. I had to bite back a small
smirk myself.
“Tori,”
He took one last drink of whatever was in that cup of his.
“I’m Archer. Um, you can go get a drink. Just go
inside the house and it’s on your right.”
I gave Torbin a confused look, and he just shrugged his
shoulders.
“Run along, now.”
Torbin said, teasing me. I smiled at Archer and made my way to
the house. I knew nobody at this place, so I didn’t know
what I was going to do. There were people everywhere. All
talking, laughing with their friends. I felt my body hit hard
against something.
“Jesus.”
I heard a deep voice. I looked up only to that I had bumped into
a boy who was on his phone. He had lighter hair than Archer, but
still shaggy.
“Um, sorry...”
I said, making my way past him. I felt someone behind me, and
turned around.
“Wait,”
The boy I bumped into whispered. A smile slid onto his perfectly
sculpted face.
“I –I’m Virgil.”
I felt my cheeks flush. This boy was gorgeous. His eyes were a
dark, dark brown, almost black. He had a narrow but firm jaw
line, and a scratchy, deep voice. He was tall, even taller than
Torbin. He was very close to me; I could feel his minty breath on
my neck.
“I’m Tori.”
I spoke in a dazed voice. He had on a dark blue hoodie and a pair
of beige shorts. This was stupid. I had barely met the guy and
I’m going all lovesick on him? He never wiped that
beautiful smile off his face.
“Do you want a drink?”
He asked, our eyes still locked together.
“Uh, sure.”
I followed him to the bar that was in the corner of the room.
Obviously, this was a party house.
“What would you like?”
I played with my fingers; I had never had any alcohol in my
entire life, so I didn’t know any names. I was about to say
water, but I didn’t want to make him think I was weak. I
reluctantly answered.
“Whatever you’re having.”
He hesitantly grabbed two cans of beer that had a label I
didn’t recognize.
“Thanks.”
I gave him a smile, and opened the can. We walked outside of the
house, into the backyard, where there were almost no people. We
stood in the middle of the yard, and he looked down at me.
“So, “
He said, leaning against a table.
“Tell me about yourself.”
I gave a soundless laugh.
“Well,”
I started, looking at the beer can and realizing the horrible
smell it had.
“I am I size 8 shoe size, I crack my knuckles and I eat
everything.”
Virgil laughed, and brought his gaze to my can of beer that I had
in my hands.
“And,”
He said, leaning over to me.
“You don’t drink.”
