Locker Number 271
Chapter 2
I looked at
myself in the bathroom mirror.
I'm ready to start over. I thought as I fixed my
wavy light brown hair.
What was the problem with me starting over in Chicago? I've
moved plenty of times.
Denver to Nashville to NYC to Atlanta to LA to Detroit to
Seattle...
and now here.
I have no problem with Chicago, I mean its the cleanest city
I've been to.
And clean is nice...
But for the first time, I actually felt like things were
changing.
And I've never been a big fan of change.
I finished fixing myself up, and I headed to my first class,
World Literature.

After
walking around the entire school, I finally found Room 123.
I walked to class looking at my schedule.
"Hi, is this Mr. Elliot's classroom?" I said,
hoping it was so I wouldn't have to search the entire
school again.
"Yes, Yes it is. And you must be Anna Scott?" He said
with a welcoming look.
"Yeah, that's me." I said looking around the
classroom.
Their desks were in the formation of a circle, and they all had
Romeo and Juliet on their desks. They must have been
having a class discussion.
Everyone was staring at me, which I have gotten used to, being
the new girl all these years. I only recognized one person,
that obnoxious boy with the locker above mine. He smirked, and
continued doodling in his notebook.
"Why don't you sit next to Katie over
there?"
A girl with blonde bouncy curls sitting in the back left corner
of the classroom raised her hand.
"I'm Katie, by the way." She said, and looked at
Mr. Elliot like he should've remembered that I don't
know anyones names yet.
I went to go sit down next to her.
"Oh, and Anna have you read Romeo + Juliet?"
Mr. Elliot remembered.
"Actually, I have." I said. I've read it hundreds
of times.
"Splendid. Now, Chris, we left off with you. Why don't
you continue?" He said.
Chris stopped doodling and closed his notebook.
"Well, the story's romantic, but its unrealistic. They
only knew each other for three days. I know Romeo + Juliet is a
classic, but the idea that this book has made society believe
this is what "true love" is, is absolutely
ridiculous. That type of love is unattainable, and this
book's moral has sent people searching for it."
Wow. I didn't expect him to be so intellectual.
I raised my hand.
"Yes, Anna." Mr. Elliot called.
"I have a comment on what Chris said. I don't believe
that they were really in "love" more than
infatuation. Romeo was a complete crush lady of the night. He
was "in love" with Rosaline, and then he sees Juliet,
and all the sudden he's "in love" with her. As
for Juliet, she was most likely sheltered her entire life, so
Romeo was probably one of the first cute boys to actually talk
to her. Also, I really don't think true love was the moral
of the story. Romeo and Juliet weren't even in the
beginning or the end of the story. The beginning and the end
were focused on the feud with the Montagues and the Capulets. I
honestly believe that the only purpose of Romeo and Juliet was
to open up the eyes of the families, so they could stop
fighting. Because only the deaths of their children could do
that."
In that moment, I could tell that Chris had always been the
smart one when it came to literature. He stared at me in awe,
like he didn't expect that to come out of my
mouth.
Mr. Elliot looked at me in amazement.
"Wow, well done Ms. Scott! I think I'm going to enjoy
having you in this class."
I forced a laugh.
After class, Katie walked up to
me.

"Hey,
what school did you used to go to?" She asked
friendly.
"Oh, I used to live in Seattle." I said, expecting
that she wouldn't know my old school if I told her.
"Sweet, I've always wanted to go to Seattle. Hey since
you're new to the city, why don't my friend and I show
you around?"
"Sure, I'd love that! I've been completely lost
since I got here."
"Great. Meet me at the bus stop after school." Katie
smiled and walked away.
****
As I walked to the bus stop, I saw Katie and Chris talking and
listening to music.
Surely, he couldn't be the friend Katie was talking
about.
"Oh, hey! Anna! Over here" Katie waved me over.
I walked over toward them.
"Hey Chris, this is Anna. She's in our World Lit
class." Katie introduced.
"Hah. Yeah we've met." Chris smirked.
Well. This'll be interesting.
