Curse the Tide
~ Chapter one
~
(Part 1 of 3)
“You’re such an idiot!” I
giggle from the back seat, my legs crossed and my arms by my
side. Jacob quickly winks at me from the passenger’s side,
before facing Oliver with a serious face. Only, his poker face
breaks and his mouth forces a smile. “He is, isn’t
he, Valerie? Sometimes I do truly wonder how he became one of my
best friends.” Oliver states, his voice sounding familiarly
teasing. I lean as forward as the seatbelt lets me, and peck
Jacob and Oliver on the cheek. Oliver, concentrating on driving,
quickly glances at me in the mirror with a smile, with a question
on his face. I shrug.
I uncross my
legs and lean back, staring out the window. “So,
Oliver… any chance we’ll make it to the beach before
school starts up again?” I tease. I ought to be grateful
though. Oliver is a very sensible driver, whereas Jacob is a
complete tool. “Hey, be grateful.” He said, as if
reading my mind. We were heading to the coast for a full 2 weeks
of fun. No stress, no families. Just three best friends embarking
on an adventure.
Sometimes people ask me how we’ve all stayed best friends. For some reason, they’re all surprised that I haven’t become romantically involved with them yet. Jacob is out-going, funny, flirty, tall and muscular, whereas Oliver is protective, sweet, loyal and tall. All in all, I’m just grateful to know them both. I rolled my window down, and breathed in the scent of salt water. The beach was near, and so was mind. My long, curly brunette hair blew with the wind, and I was just waiting for the sight of sand.
