Chapter 1:
Am I ready for this?
I woke up the next morning feeling like my
body had turned to lead. Ugh I hardly got any sleep. I
thought to myself as I dragged myself out of bed and into the
bathroom. I looked in the mirror and did not like what I saw. My
light brown hair had lost it's natural curl from me tossing
and turning last night. My green eyes looked dull, and don't
even get me started on the circles under my eyes. I groaned and
went through the daily routine of piling on truckloads of make up
on my face. Well, maybe not that much, but more than I liked. As
I was finishing up putting my mascara on and glossing my lips, I
heard a shout from downstairs,
"Natalie! Kayla! Jake! Caleb! Breakfast time!" My mom
shouted. I rolled my eyes. I hate my family. My mom and dad for
some reason like big families, and decided to have one of their
own. I'm 13, my sister is 15, Jake is 12 and Caleb is 9. I
also have another sister, Marie, who is 19, but she's out of
the house. Unfortunately, she'll be back soon. Sometime in
May.
"Coming!" Somebody shouted. I have a weird family, and
with so many kids (and me being quiet, I usually get lost in the
chaos. I walked downstairs with my hair in a braid, wearing a
plain green and gold shirt and jean capris. I'm not to big on
fashion, I usually just don't care. I make myself a bowl of
cereal, pour the milk and wander back over to the table.
"Young lady, you have way too much make-up on!" My dad,
Richard says. I freeze, thinking he's talking to me. But
he's not. He's talking to Kayla.
"Dad! I DO not!" She yells at him. She actually
doesn't but it just looks like a lot. I smirk and sit down to
watch the fight.
"Go wash it off! Now!"
"No!"
"NOW OR I WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR PHONE FOR A MONTH" my dad
says boomingly. Well. That shut her up. Kayla runs upstairs
shouting 'you hate me' or something like that. Kayla
spends all her free time on her phone, I don't know how she
keeps her grades up. Maybe she doesn't I don't really
care. I notice how quiet Jake is being. He's normally blaming
me for something I didn't do, chattering about something
completely irrelavant or just being annoying. But he's silent
as he watched my sister come back down from the bathroom, her
face almost free of make-up. I give him a 'are you okay?'
look and he just nods. Like I said, I don't talk much. I
can't really get a word in anyway with our chaotic family. My
sister brushes past me with a bowl of cereal, and I notice that
when she washed her make-up off, she traded her regular shorts
for a pair of extremely tiny shorts.
"Sl*t." Jake whispered, and coughed. I know, he's
kind of young to know about everything, but he does. He's
really, um, smart.
"WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!" Kayla shouts at him. He
looks at her innocently. It is true though. I've caught her,
um, in bed once before. Not even kidding. She screamed
at me to get out, but came crying to me later how whoever the
hell she was with broke up with her after they were done. I
didn't care, but I wouldn't tell anyone. My parents were
conveniently gone then. I
sighed heavily, cleared my bowl and got ready for
school.

I sat through long, boring periods with
nothing on my mind except him. I am really pathetic
sometimes. I was daydreaming how our meeting after school would
go when a voice broke into my thoughts,
"Hey, Natalie, are you okay?" It was Chelsea, one of my
best friends. She looked at me with deep concern in her light
blue eyes. She's really pretty, with light brown hair
streaked with red and lightly tanned skin. She doesn't have a
boyfriend, but she has had many offers.
"Yeah, sorry I'm fine. What did Mrs. Thomas just
say?" I asked, blushing at my ignorance. Chelsea smiled at
me with a knowing look in her eyes. I think she knows what's
going on. I blushed even deeper and looked down at my paper. My
blank paper. Oops. Finally, school was over. I walked past groups
of people laughing and chatting, but ignored all of them. I could
see him now, and as I got closer, I could see his upbeat
face.eA
single thought crossed my mind as I got closer to him.
Am I ready for
this?
