The Right

Chapter 16
I woke up the next
day, rubbing makeup from last night off my face with my hands. I
looked down and realized I had slept in my clothes, and rememered
what happened. I groaned and layed back down, wanting to fall
back asleep and never wake up. I still couldn't belive I
actually cheated on Dan with Mike. And I can't really blame
Sophia for getting back at me for what I had done for her.
Then I had a horrible thought. Did my mom know what I did? If she
found out, she would kill me. I had been with Dan for almost a
year. If she found out...I couldn't let that happen.
Deciding not to change, I stumbled down the stairs where I met
Liz.
"Sam!" she said almost immediatly. "Where was your
mom last night? She never came home!" I blinked my eyes. And
then I realized-she never actually did come home. Trying to wake
up and process my thoughts, I sat down on the couch at the
den.
"She probably stayed at that little motel down in the center
of town," I said, yawning. "She did that last
summer." Liz sat down with me, already thinking.
"What are you going to tell her?" Liz asked
me.
"I don't know!" I replied. "Do you know where
Mike is?" I asked.
"Probably at his house!" Liz cried out. "But does
that matter? We need to find your mom!" But I was already
racing upstairs to change.
"I'll be down in a minute!" I yelled from the top
of the stairs. I pulled on yellow sandals from Delia's and a
white sundress, and ran down the stairs.
"I'm going to Mike's," I said to Liz.
"Wanna come?" She sighed.
"We're gonna find your mom on the way," she
said.

Ding dong! I pressed the doorbell of Mike's, and a
couple seconds later, a woman came to the door.
"Oh, hello!" She said. "Are you looking for
Mike?"
"Yeah," I awnsered. "Any idea where he
is?"
"He left to the market a few minutes ago," she said
cheerfully.
"Thanks," I said, and ran off.
Ten minutes later, we ran into the town market, keeping an eye
out for Mike.
A few minutes later, we spotted him in the produce section and
sprinted up to him.
"Mike!" I called out. I ran up and gave him a big hug.
He smiled, but I could tell something was wrong.
"Mike?" I said, a tint of uncertainty in my voice.
"Um, hey Sam-" but his voice was cut short.
"Yeah? What are you doing here?" The sharp voice of
Sophia cut through his.
