escaping the holocaust
chapter 2
***

The soldiers forced us straight and where yelling at us to take our clothes off. My heart was beating so fast, but we all did it anyway. I tried covering up, but it was just too hard.
We started getting closer and closer, I heard moans and yelling and the closer we got, the worse the smell was. Then from a distance I saw people with striped outfits on, trying to walk, and getting yelled out by the soldiers. I started to cry
"Mom! You promised we would have fun" tears rolling down my eyes. Her face was frozen solid, not replying. The same with my fathers.
"Shut up!" The man yelled, pushing us forward and throwing the striped clothes at us. He threw shoes at us all. Mine where too small and so where my fathers. My mothers was much too big. So her and my father traded, but before they where done we where pushed into the crowd of running people.
I studied everything carefully, frightened but a little curious. I couldn't see one person that didn't look like bones and skin. I saw a woman drinking out of a muddy pool of water on the ground. My stomach started to churn.
"You there!" A fat man screamed at us.
  "Come, now!"
We ran to him, and he hit us with a rope.
"Little girl, over here!" He grabbed me and shaved all of my long, beautiful black hair off of my head. Tears running down my face. I wanted to grow it long to look like my older sisters that had moved out 2 years ago. He pushed me down, landing on rocks, jabbing into my knees. He did the same things with my mother and father. They didn't struggle though. They just closed their eyes and breathed deeply.
I hated this. Why where so many people here.. I didn't understand it. Confusion filled my head.
The soldiers made us do meaningless things. Like move dirt out of the way with out hands, and move rocks. My stomach was churning, nerves filled me up. Then I looked next to me and a girl, maybe a little older than me was sitting a few people down. I pushed myself up and limped over to her and sat back down and started working again.
  "Hi." I whispered.
The girl looked over at me, scars where on her forehead and she looked back down.
  "Hello.." She replied.
"What's your name?" I asked, trying to be nice.
  "Mary. What's yours?"
  "Alicia." I replied.
"Why are so many people here, having to work?" My voice got deeper while confusion filed my head again.
She looked at me. "Because.. we're Jews.." She looked back down again.
My breath stopped. We where forced to do things, to be inprisoned, because we where .. Jews?
