Cancer
Is My New Best Friend.
Chapter
7,
The wind rushed passed us as we
walked on the boardwalk.
“Here let me buy you an ice
cream” he said going through his pocket.
“No thanks” I
smiled.
“C’mon it’s my
treat” he laughed “Mint, banana or cookie
dough?”
“Vanilla” I said
looking at Jesse whose brown hair was almost dry.
“No vanilla is
boring” Jesse said pushing me gently.
“Ugh you’re
stubborn” I said biting my lip “Banana
then”
We sat down on the bench; Jesse
had a mint ice cream while I had my banana.
“Jesse” I said, he
looked at me and smiled “Why are you being so nice to
me?”
“Your nice” he
smiled, I felt his arm brush against mine “You’re not
like the rest of the girls”
“And you’re not like
the rest of the boys” I laughed “Most of the boys at
school tease me”
“Well they’re jerks
and deserve no one” he smiled.
I let out a smile and carried on
eating the ice cream.
“So are you from around
here?” Jesse asked looking at me.
“I live about 30 minutes
drive from here” I smiled “You?”
“I’m from around
here, I just live down there” he pointed.
They were a lot of houses that I
couldn’t see.
“That’s nice” I
smiled “I bet you love it here”
“I do but it gets
boring” he said “I mean in winter no one
comes”
“Well I’m here”
I teased “And it’s winter”
“Maybe so but you
don’t get what your family is doing in winter, I mean
having a picnic” he smiled.
“I think they have only
come to try and please me” I said shaking it
off.
“What do you mean?”
he laughed.
“Nothing” I said
standing up. We walked down to the end of the
boardwalk.
“Tell me” he smiled
for some reason I trusted this boy.
He didn’t seem like the
rest of the boys.
“I went to the doctors to
end my treatment” I said but before I got another word in,
Jesse interrupted.
“What?” Jesse said
“Are you crazy?”
“No, but I guess you would
be pleased to know that the doctor said I would need my
parents’ permission and my brother Dallas told
them”
“Good” Jesse said
quickly “I mean it’s your choice but you should live
life”
“If you say so” I
said in a low voice.
“Okay stop acting
depressing” Jesse said banging my hip.
I was feeling weak.
“I need to sit down”
I said trying to catch my breath.
