Eternally Silenced - Chapter 2
(Part 2)
Twenty minutes later
I answered the door, let Charlie in, took her duffle
bag, and led her to my room.
"Thanks for coming over Charlie," I thanked
her.
"Anything for my little taquito," she
smiled. Her constantly changing nicknames for me that somehow
always referenced to my hispanic culture never got old, so I smiled
back. It was a nervous smile though and Charlie, as usual, saw
right through me.
"Why are you nervous?" she questioned
me.
"Because what I want to tell you is something
that I have never told anyone but I really need someone and I feel
like I can trust you," I confessed.
"Of course you can trust me. You know you can
tell me anything," she said sweetly. That, right there, is
where I started tearing up.
"Does the name Samuel Fernandez sound familiar
at all?"
"Yeah, he's that kidnapper/rapist/killer.
Why?"
"Because when I was seven, I was the last girl
he took. The police caught him and a couple weeks later he
escaped," I explained.
"You're kidding. You have to be
kidding," she said.
"No not at all.."
"How do you not cry like everyday?"
"I do.. I cry in my sleep," I admitted.
"You never do when you spend the night.."
she replied skeptically.
"That's because he took me when I was alone.
Whenever I'm with someone I feel safer.."
"You're always safe with me.. I
will never let anything hurt you. Ever," she whispered,
hugging me.
That's when the first tear rolled down my
cheek.
