IF I LIVED THE HUNGER GAME
CHAPTER 2: "the arrival", part 2
KATIA:
We got in the elevator. It was taking Plex and I to the
fifth floor. I stood with Milah and Aero. On the second
floor, Aero had to get out. He gave me one last hug before
the elevator guard pushed him through the door. I nearly opened
my mouth, but Masse grabbed my shoulder and shook his
head. Masse was lean and long. His hair was shaggy and
chestnut brown, along with his eyes. He removed his hand from my
shoulder and stared blankly to the elevator buttons, counting
what floor was next.
On
the way up, I thought about Aitor and Sanders. I hadn’t
seen them since we got off the train. I wonder where they went.
Probably to some Gamemaker orientation. Weren’t they the
‘lucky ones’? How could the capitol do this?
Why? There must be some good in them telling them that this is
wrong.
The parade was a bore, but our costumes were interesting. I got
to meet my prep team, but I didn’t catch their names. They
just bathed me down and did what they had to do. We all rode in
like a rainbow. Plex and I were dressed in all orange, I in
an orange dress, hair and eyes
(temporarily) orange to. The outfits I was most interested
with were to come for interviews.
While in the parade, Plex and I were on our little float
waving and smiling to the crowd. But on the inside, we were
screaming. We dreaded it all. It’s all fake; the smiles,
the emotions, the waves, the interviews…everything. But
it’s for our own welfare to just let it go by. During the
rebellion, I and most of my friends just defied the Capitol in
little ways, to distract them from the big things Milah was more
into. But now I knew the consequences: Our own special Hunger
Games. That probably was the plan all along. There never was a
random classroom pick- it was going to be us all along. Blasted
President Snow!
So Plex and I put on a brave face and waved happily to the
world we hated. Tomorrow Plex and I are meeting our
stylists, Dahlia Zalzer and Galbert Sife.
Great.
