chapter ten

 One Year Later:

The sun shimmered off of the hood of my new cherry red car.
"Do you like it?" my dad asked cautiously
I walked around the car twice and realized i had been holding my breathe the whole time. It was gorgeous.
"Dad..you didn't have to do this for me.."
His eyes sparkled and the hint of a smirk played on the edges
of his chapped lips.
"But sweetheart, I did." he murmured while
pulling me into his arms.
I hopped inside and waved to my family standing on the lawn.
Greyson's house towered over me as I made my way up
to his front door.
He came to the door and grabbed my by the waist
"Happy birthday Vannessa" we kissed for awhile before i finally pulled away.
"I love you" i whispered into his ear and let out a giggle.
"I love you more" he replied and led the way through the house.
On his back steps, he had set up a beautiful picnic lunch on the beach.
The deck stairs led down onto the sand that immediately enveloped my feet in powdery softness.
I kicked off my sandals and Greyson
scooped my up into his arms.
In that moment, I flashed back to the day I collapsed
in my hospital room, trying to get to Greyson.
The memory was so vivid in my mind and I can remember
every word that nurse said to me when I finally woke up.
"Hello Vanessa. How are you feeling?" she had asked while checking the IV cord hooked up to my arm.
"I'm alright." i had croaked out 
I had reached out and tapped her arm to get her attention,
and said "Where is he?"
"who are you talking about sweetie" the nurse had asked, confusion flooding her face.
"Greyson Sage" I had said while propping myself up on one elbow
"Oh..him.."
She went on to tell me that she had been in Greyson's room the minute he heard the red-headed nurse's cry for help.
She said that the minute the first scream echoed through the hallway, Greyson's eyes had opened for the first time since the accident. The first words out of his mouth were my name.
From that moment on, I knew that it was true love. 
After the accident, Greyson and I spent every waking moment together and it was just how I had wanted it to be.
I snapped out of my trance from Greyson calling my name
"Vanessa, I think we should go surfing again...since its your birthday." he said as a wide grin spread across his face.
I threw my head back and laughed, the sun beating down on my skin.
"I would love to" I said as I wrapped my arms around his
neck and went in for another kiss.
